HOT - The Coming Of HD Mobile Phones

For those who are not aware of it, the next stage of smartphone development is the HD phones. HD handsets are already available and more and more manufacturers are adding or planning to add the technology to their range. The news which came out of the recent CES show in Las Vegas confirms this.

Phone companies including Huawei, Sony and ZTE all made announcements about their top handsets which will include HD screens.

How Big? How Much Power?

Most HD handsets will feature a 5 inch screen and there are plenty of models already named and if not launched they soon will be. These include the HTC J Butterfly, the Sony Xperia Z and the Huawei Ascend D2. Last year the trend was to upgrade the processor to the most powerful possible and this is a continuation of that.

HD mobiles will need the extra power and speed that these processors bring. However, most people will be asking if it is worth the money for an HD handset as this is a feature which is not included on all handsets so those that do carry it also carry a higher price tag.

Benefits

HD technology has already been around for a while although most of us associate it with televisions.  There are plenty of handsets out there that are capable of recording video in HD format even though the phone itself was not able to play it back at the same quality.

This is just one way in which a user can benefit from a HD phone. Those who like to download video can watch HD quality footage easily now and this can be extended to a number of other features of the phones including gaming.

Imminent Announcements

It is fully expected that the upcoming Mobile World Congress will bring announcements regarding further HD handsets and there are several manufacturers that have not yet spoken about how they are going to compete in this new market.

With these developments in mind the Qualcomm company has already unveiled a new chip – the Snapdragon 800. This will allow video to be recorded in ‘ultra HD’, a term applied to something previously referred to as 4K. The resolution is far greater, allowing images to be much sharper and clearer.

Who’s It For?

There are a number of people who will benefit from this type of HD technology. If you have opted for a phone that has a good quality camera because you want to take plenty of photos or video then HD will definitely have its plus points.

A good resolution is ideal for those who want to share their images through social networking sites. Gamers will appreciate the larger and better quality screen as this will also make more games available to them. With all this in mind it may be worth paying out extra for an HD handset.

However, if you are not too bothered by these features then it is not worth the extra money. The day when all handsets are HD is not that far away and this will result in lower prices for users anyway.
