What Makes Top Bloggers So Successful, And What Can You Learn From Them?

Emulating other successful models is a good practice in any business field. Whether you’re teaching, writing, speaking, selling or doing anything really, look to your more successful peers for inspiration. Just looking isn’t going to be enough though.

Seeing the success and knowing why that person succeeded in the first place are two different things. The real question then is what makes those top bloggers like the people at Billfold so successful and how can you put those principles to work for yourself? Fortunately, there are simple answers to this complicated couple of questions.

They Have Followers

This might seem foolish to even mention, but stop and really think about it for a minute. Regardless of what you’re trying to do with your life, it isn’t about what you know but whom you know. There are plenty of jobless, broke geniuses, that’s for sure.

A top blogger will have lots of followers and some of those people will be all too eager to send a favor in the blogger’s direction. This could be a mere mention somewhere else or an offer for work, maybe a donation to help keep the blog going, anything like that.

Nobody makes it alone and if you want to make it, you’re going to need a support network like this too. So, if you want to make it to the top, you will need some subscribers. Consider trading subs with friends of yours who also have blogs.

Successful Blogging

They Have Backlinks

Building up backlinks takes a long time. When just starting out, your own blog will have none. It’s up to you to slowly build them up, one by one, until you have so many links leading to other good blogs that people start to think your own blog is one of the good ones too.

Top bloggers realize how important this linking practice is and their posts are rife with that familiar blue, underlined look that hyperlinks carry. While you might not be able to wish for readers and just make them appear, you can certainly do something about links, right here and right now.

If it seems like tedious work, that’s because it is; you might consider contracting this process to a professional writer or another blogger.

They Have Experience

More than any other factor, experience helps keep the top dogs on top. There is no substitute for the stuff and you will need to try, whether to a successful end or total failure, if you want to build up this valuable resource.

While you’re figuring out how you fit into the blogosphere, you can look at top blogs to see how their writers keep people coming back over and over. Did you just read something you really liked on Blog X?

Great, the odds are good tons of other people read the same stuff and liked it too. Once you know more about how to write for the blog-going crowd, your own writing will become more appealing to them. There’s still no substitute for the knowledge gained from trying, failing and learning how not to fail the same way next time.
