Nokia Lumia 925 - Review and First Impressions

Nokia has come up with a new flagship phone - the Lumia 925. The phone is a slightly improved version of the Lumia 920 which was launched last year. Let us find out what this stylish phone has to offer in terms of features.

Features and Specifications of Nokia Lumia 925

Design:

Although the Lumia 925 looks quite similar to its predecessor, Nokia has made quite a few subtle changes which make it more stylish and improve handling. It has an aluminum frame and a polycarbonate back panel which keeps the weight down to a manageable 139 grams without compromising on the robustness.

In terms of dimensions, the phone measures 129 x 70.6 x 8.5 mm which makes it easy to handle and pocket. Overall, the Lumia 925 looks extremely stylish and elegant as well as provides a nice and solid feel in the hand.

Display:

The phone rolls out with a 4.5" AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display which has a resolution of 768 X 1280 pixels. Unfortunately, this is the highest resolution display supported by the Windows Phone 8 platform, so there is nothing Nokia could improve on this front.

Nonetheless, it is an excellent display with top-notch image quality. Additionally, there is PureMotion HD+ ClearBlack technology which reduces reflections off the screen and Super Sensitive touch technology which allows you to operate the touchscreen even with your gloves on.

Camera:

Nokia Lumia 925 brings along an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera with built-in optical image stabilization, Pureview technology and dual-LED flash. The sensor has the ability to shoot photos up to a maximum resolution of 3264 X 2448 pixels and record videos of 1080p @ 30 fps.

The addition of Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) results in amazing low-light performance and reduces the shaking effect while using the camera. The camera interface has a wide range of features like Smart Camera, Action Shot, Motion Focus, Panorama, Cinemagraph, GlamMe and much more. The phone also has a secondary 1.3 megapixel camera at the front for self-portraits and 720p video calls.

Internal Hardware:

The limitations of Windows Phone 8 don’t allow any upgrades in the internal hardware department of the Nokia Lumia925. Just like its predecessor, it also runs on a dual-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon processor, Adreno 225 GPU and 1 GB of RAM.

However, the internal memory has been downgraded to 16 GB which is quite disappointing as the phone doesn't have a microSD card slot for memory expansion. The battery is a 2000 mAh non-removable Li-Ion unit which lasts easily for day on a single charge.

Software:

Nokia Lumia 925 ships with Microsoft Windows Phone 8 operating system bundled with a host of exclusive apps like Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive+ Beta, Nokia City Lens and Nokia Smart Camera. The OS is also integrated with Microsoft's Skydrive service allowing you to store files on the cloud with ease.

Availability:

The Nokia Lumia 925 is expected to go on sale globally from June onwards. In the US, the phone will be exclusively available through T-Mobile. For pricing details, please contact your local retailer or Nokia store.
