Twitter Acquires Smart Lock Screen App Cover

Twitter has announced the acquisition of Cover, a smart lock screen app that replaces the default Android lock screen. Cover is an Android app that replaces your default lock screen and it lets you customize what apps you see on the lock screen for quick and easy access. But now it is acquired by micro-blogging giant Twitter to make something new.

Regarding the acquisition the Cover's team said, "Twitter, like Cover, believes in the incredible potential of Android. They share our vision that smartphones can be a lot smarter -more useful and more contextual- and together we’re going to make that happen. We’ll be building upon a lot of what makes Cover great, and we’re thrilled to create something even better at Twitter."

We've seen how Facebook started its own lock-screen app called the Facebook Home, so it’s clear that on some level, that companies are trying to remain front of mind for a user and incorporate a series of services that become front and center features for a user.

From the launching Till now Cover has gained many users and it says "We've picked up “hundreds of thousands” of users since launching in October 2013." So this will definitely work for Twitter. So if you're a Cover user then you don't have to worry with this acquisition.

The company states "For now, Cover will remain available in the Play Store while we focus our attention on our work at Twitter. If that changes down the road, we’ll provide another update here."
