Comparing The Different Atex Laptops And Tablets

There may be a limited number of manufacturers for Atex equipment, but that does not mean that potential purchases only have one or two models to consider, or that the types of features are wanting.

Although options are more limited than the general laptop and tablet market, Atex certified laptops and tablets come in a range and with several different feature sets. This makes sure that the wide range of potential uses and the specific environments that require such strict restrictions are not at odds.

Basic Considerations

The first thing to think about are the conditions under which the Atex equipment will work. Knowing the type of hazardous environment is essential prior to making the purchase. Different gas mixtures and dust types require different classifications to identify what situation the equipment is made to handle.

For example, chemical processing plants are in enclosed areas where gases are more likely to be residual. Mines are enclosed, but dust and gases are potential issues and could be at higher concentrations without ventilation like a chemical plant.

The next basic consideration is how sturdy the equipment will need to be and what types of temperatures and conditions are likely to be present. Again, chemical plants are less likely to have risks of the laptops or tablets falling from height, and oil rigs probably need a equipment that are waterproof.

Types of Available Features

The primary difference between Atex laptops and tablets is the added protection of the shell for Atex equipment and the make of the different parts inside them. Atex laptops are fanless, but are able to stay cool with their unique design.

Anything that is considered a basic function of a laptop or tablet is available on Atex equipment, especially essential components like WiFi or Bluetooth access. With a number of facilities requiring different levels of security, most Atex equipment, especially laptops and tablets, have security available to make sure unauthorized personal cannot access the systems or data.

Researching the different security abilities before purchasing can help ensure the device meets the need. Although it looks very different from the common tablet, an Atex tablet has many of the same functions and abilities.

Tablets can have the same touchscreen interface that make them so handy in every day work. These tablets are even lightweight like a regular tablet, but they are far more durable. They even include GPS so that users will be able to track where they have been when making rounds and conducting normal inspections.

For most laptops and tablets, users are not expected to sacrifice speed for security or durability. Many devices are equipped with comparable chips that can run at equally quick processing speeds. The screens are small and sunlight-readable to suit many of the necessary outdoor conditions for use. They can even include cameras and bar code scanners to reduce the number of Atex devices required in the field.

Parts

When replacement parts are required, make sure to purchase spare parts that are Atex certified. As the Atex directive changes overtime, checking the latest specifications for purchased parts is necessary so that equipment can be fixed and still meet the requirements for conditions.

Spare parts from five years ago may require modifications to meet the latest standards. Make sure to do some research and check the qualifications on parts before beginning maintenance and repairs, especially if spare parts were purchased with the hardware several years ago.
