Gadgets for childrenIn this era of constant technological advancements, the age at which a person gets introduced to his/her first gadget is fast becoming a smaller number. Children start using gadgets around them quite early these days, and it’s not surprising to see five year old knowing how to use all apps on a smartphone, or ten year old using the Internet on computers and laptops on a regular basis.

The manner in which information is presented to, and received by children has evolved a lot in the last few years, and most gadget manufacturers, as well as parents are aware of it. The new trend that has now developed, is that of giving education as well as entertainment, both, with the help of gadgets. People have realized that this is how kids receive information best, and to keep in sync with them, parents have to adopt techniques that work according to their kids’ desires and interests.

Here are some of the gadgets that parents can fearlessly let their kids indulge in.

• Learning Laptops

These resemble regular laptops, except that they are smaller in size, and colorful in terms of design and appearance. These are basically meant for pre-schoolers or toddlers, to get used to basic usage of gadgets, as well as to learn things such as alphabets, numbers etc. The laptops come pre-loaded with rhymes, educational videos, interactive games, and a lot more. Kids will get used to pressing buttons on a laptop, and will also develop eye-hand co-ordination skills.

• Interactive Book Systems

These are like digital books, which come with a pen. Each system basically comes with one or two books, along with cartridges. More books can be purchased for the system, with the help of cartridges. The child can easily make use of the pen to point on specific things in the book, and learn accordingly.
These are meant for a slightly higher age group, such as 5-7 year olds, for them to understand concepts such as human body, outer space etc.

• Firefly Mobile

These are basic mobiles, available in a variety of colors, for kids to stay in touch with their parents. There are no complicated features on these phones, and each of the limited set of buttons can be customized to dial only one number. So kids know what button to press to connect with only two or three most important people – the ones that they need to stay in touch with.

• Handheld Education cum Gaming Systems

These are manufactured by various companies, and are available in different designs to suit the needs of 2-3 year olds, as well as 4-7 year olds. Kids can play games on these devices, as well as access interactive educational software. Nintendo DS Lite, and VTech Mobigo are two popular examples. There is also Celestron SkyScout, which is like a handheld planetarium, enabling kids to point their device to any celestial body in the sky at night, and get information from the device about it’s name, history, and other details.

As more and more parents are taking interest in such toys and gadgets, developers of games have also started to indulge in the manufacturing of educational cum gaming software, which can run on PCs, laptops, gaming consoles etc.
