Many people have taken to blogging, and what used to be an interesting pastime has now become very popular and remunerative. Starting a blog is pretty easy, however getting the right content that a lot of people would want to read is the challenge. You need to be able to draw people back to your site, looking for your blogs.

It is just not the content that attracts people, the layout, design and presentation also matter. A blog primarily tries to convey something and it is important how this message is conveyed. Writing style, choice of subjects and brevity all play a role in successful blogging.  Giving a personal touch to your blog invites readers to participate and leave behind comments along with their contact details.

The first step would be creating a unique home page for your blog. This landing page is the welcome page for your blog and the first impression needs to be the best. It should be user-friendly with easy to use tools and navigable without encountering much difficulty. Make sure you have a catchy welcome message or mission statement that can hold a person’s interest. It has to be well defined whether it is meant for the business class or for people out looking for fun.

The design on the blog should convey the message effectively and let the visitor know what the blog is meant for. Take extra care to choose a font that is appealing and easily readable. The same goes for the color theme which should be refined, and not garish just to gain attention. The design and color should match the central theme of the blog whether it is sports, finance, childcare or any such subject.

Establish yourself as a blogger by talking about what is so special about you and devote more space and information on the ‘About Me’ page. You need to portray yourself as an expert in the topic your blog is talking about. Create the impression that your blog is the best place to interact with like minded people and that there is heavy traffic. You could talk about the experience you have on the relevant subject and invite people to express their views.

Another area you need to concentrate on is to classify the blogs and make them easily retrievable. For instance a person could be looking for specific information.  He may have come across this information on your blog that was posted some time ago and would like to read it again. There should be an easy way to pull up the information from the archives without spending too much time. The headings that you categorize under could actually be keywords that a search engine can easily recognize. This should optimize your blog better and produce good results.

Blogrolls are great for attracting more traffic. The ready list of links to other blogs that the blogger is used to needs to be included in the blog. The reader may have added a link which could automatically become a part of your blogroll. Additional links simply mean more traffic which will just snowball and create more traffic. You could be lucky enough to attract links to blogs that already have a good page ranking on leading search engines. This will automatically enhance your blogs page ranking, which what blogging is all about.
