After Your CAD Education, What Next?

CAD Education
Getting a CAD education doesn’t come cheap. Your spend a lot of money, time, energy and invest so much more before you can earn your certificate. A lot of people usually make the mistake of sitting at home, submitting to online job vacancies and waiting for the big job to come from the large companies and firm that require the services of designers.

If you are one of those, then you’re not doing yourself any good. So what should you do after college when you have no job, so you don’t get to forget everything you were taught in school? Here are some of the ways you can get busy while you wait for the big job.

Internship
Instead of staying at home waiting for a miracle, why not step out and look for some internship position in any of the companies around your community. There are many companies out there looking for designers to join there team, because they need extra help which they may not be able to pay for. Even if the internship is unpaid it’s still highly beneficial, how? Internship will expose you to qualified and experienced professionals that you will learn from.

You have the chance to learn on-the-job tricks and tips about computer aided designs in any of your chosen endeavor. This will make you become a better designer with quality skills within a short time. Internship can also be added to your resume as an additional working experience. If you’re lucky or extremely good the company may decide to staff you.

Practice
If you can’t find internship you can create one for yourself by acquiring software and programs related to your field and engage in regular practice to teach yourself CAD basics. Practicing on regular basis helps you to naturally learn the most important design tips gradually and progressively.

Everyday you will learn new things through experimentation and trials, that’s the right way to become an expert in anything. Practicing ensures that you keep in touch with everything you’ve learnt in college so you don’t have to struggle with your memory when you finally get a job long time after graduation.

Promote Yourself
Modern designers have plenty of avenues to promote themselves. Instead of sitting down idle, why not get busy creating sample works and uploading it on social network sites like Facebook, twitter, YouTube and Vimeo for people to see. Try uploading your samples in places where you’re sure people in the CAD industry will be able to find it.

You should also include keywords into your YouTube descriptions and titles so that people can find your work through search engines results. If you have the resources you can create your own website or blog and post all your sample works there. This way you can become a well paid freelance CAD designer. Again your collection will also serve you well when prospective employers demand for your experience or work samples.

Join Online Communities
Online forums, certain blogs, and groups and pages on social network sites provide you with opportunities to meet so many other professionals in your field that can help you gain more experience, networking and interaction. You can ask any questions and expect many answers which can have great positive impact on your life and career.

You can also get to find people to do collaboration work with. These kind of people usually have connection to employers who have plenty of assignment for designers, but they themselves can’t do all the work alone. posting your sample works to online communities will help expose you to opportunities, as long as you continue to add useful content to the community.
