Ubuntu's new versionOne of the things that have consistently happened at Ubuntu is that they come up with a new release on an average every six months. The next release called version 13.04 has officially been named ‘Raring Ringtail,’ a native North American animal. If you are interested in knowing what this animal is, then understand it is a raccoon.

It is so named so because of the nature of its tail. In appearance it is a little smaller than the domestic cat we keep for pet. Next you may want to ask why name a software after a raccoon? That is because it is a very agile animal and the distributors of this software perhaps relate the software more to the agility of the animal.

According to Shuttleworth’s blog it is going to be sharper, leaner and more mobile. He doesn’t in anyway give much information about the changes you will see when it is finally released in 2013 for commercial use. Insiders, who have some information, though scare, believe it will mean a lot of change for the users.

In short, they say, that one of the biggest changes users can expect is the optimization of the OS software on the battery life of the hardware. The software is also believed, will focus on other areas like lesser running processes and a fine tuned memory system. Though pretending to be telling a lot, the blog in reality does not give much away by way of information on the proposed new release.

Development on the Raring Ringtail has commenced on 25 October 30, 2012 and if everything runs on schedule users should have a downloadable version on 25 April next year. In the meanwhile, the developers propose closing down all feature addition in November this year. The alpha release of the 'Raring Ringtail' has been scheduled for December 6 and the next, alpha 2 will be available February, 2013.

The beta versions are planned to be released in two versions, the first of the two betas will is scheduled for March 7 and the later one on March 28. That is of course presuming everything will be working at clockwise precision. Since little is known about the changes that we can see in the forthcoming release of Ubuntu and the scare information on which the developers are harping, it is simply a guess that the new product may be focusing on the mobile market with many sharing it.

That is evident from the importance the distribution is planning on the new release on battery life and the number of processes it proposes to bring down in the release scheduled for March next year. Some believe there will be better screen latency in the OS at least in the future releases. It also remains to be see how much the focus is going to be on the games performance factors, especially if it’s on ARM processors.

In the meanwhile, in October, 2012 Canonical has just announced the release of the Ubuntu 12.10 distribution. Veteran users of Ubuntu should be able to guess the kind of changes they can expect in the Raring Ringtail, by looking at this release.

The main focus of this release is on the accessibility and integration, which is very much evident when a search is done. The unique feature is when you do the search not only do they give you local result, but also web results. Let’s hope that the Raring Ringtail will have the better of both worlds.
