5G Mobile Broadband Soon to Become a Reality

5G Mobile BroadbandMany of us are still getting used to the idea of 4G. With more phones slowly coming out with 4G support now, 5G is well on its way from the looks of it. There are no specifics out yet on how the 5th generation of the wireless mobile system is going to work. Here is a first look at the possible future wireless telecommunication network:

What is 5G?

5th generation wireless system is the name coined for the next possible mobile network. It is a name used on research related articles to indicate the next major breakthrough on mobile telecommunication standardization, which will go beyond 4G’s advanced functionalities.

Currently, the name is not used on any official document released by telecommunication standardization biggies. Though the next standard is under progress, according to the official bodies, it is not yet considered a completely new generation and still comes under the 4G cap.

The ‘expectations’ for the next generation:

The 5th generation is expected to be smarter rather than faster. It is anticipated to make more intelligent use of the data capacity than the previous generation. However, there is still no valid explanation about the meaning of 5G. This has not deterred the discussion about the possible introduction of the next generation. In fact, the possibility was discussed in the most recent Mobile World Congress Meet, which took place in the city of Barcelona.

The key difference between each generation has been the speed. 2G, which was the first to come, brought about a digital transmission. 3G, which was introduced next, made streaming of online videos possible. 4G, which has slowly started circulating among people, is aspiring to bring true mobile broadband to reality.

5G as I stated before will not have any substantial increase in the broadband speed. However, this generation will concentrate on balancing the crowded networks by looking into the data content and will take calculated decisions on which should be given priority. For example, sending an e-mail can be given the next priority while giving importance to voice data that has to be delivered immediately.
There are rumors milling about the next generation with the latest 802.11 ac Wi-Fi being dubbed as the fifth generation.

The possibility 5G Mobile Broadband Becoming a Reality:

If ever such a generation comes out, the likely time for it to come out will be 2020 according to a few sources. If we look back on the history of mobile generations, we can see that a new generation has been introduced every 10 years from the time 1G was introduced. 1G system came in the year 1981, 2G was introduced in 1992, 3G in 2001 and 4G introduced in 2011.

With a rough 10-year gap to develop, the next generation cannot be expected anytime soon. However, technology is advancing rapidly. Now, people have better access and wider options than they did in the 1990’s or 2000’s. Can the next generation be expected anytime soon? Will it soon become a reality in 2013? Let’s wait and see if 5G will work smarter or faster than the current 4G.
