You Can Move Lotus Notes Contacts to Your Outlook Mailbox

Lotus Notes is an efficient email client developed and marketed by IBM, which is highly used by corporate sectors and individual users for managing their emails, contacts, calendars, etc.

However, due to high maintenance cost and comparatively less user friendly interface, people want to migrate to more understandable and affordable Microsoft Outlook. In this process of switching from IBM Lotus Notes to MS Outlook, users come across the need to move their contacts from Notes to Outlook.

This can easily be achieved by exporting contacts from Notes and importing them to Outlook. Let us take a practical example to understand this issue. David was using IBM Lotus Notes V6 in his current job and that too for past 5 years. During his work tenure he stored some really useful contacts in personal address book.

However, the new workplace that he is going to join next month uses MS Outlook 2003 hence; he wants to move all his contacts from Notes to Outlook. Similar situation can occur with you as well in which you may need to move all your contacts from Lotus Notes to MS Outlook. Therefore, to achieve this goal you can follow below mentioned steps:

Steps to Move Lotus Notes Contacts to MS Outlook:

• Start IBM Lotus Notes and select the contacts that you want to move to Outlook. After selecting the contacts, go to menu bar of your Notes mailbox and select ‘File>>Export’. Select the contacts to be exported either in comma separated value or tab-delimited file format. Now select the location where you want the contacts to be exported and select ‘Export’ option.

• Now open Outlook either through the desktop icon or through the ‘Start’ menu. Go to menu bar of Outlook and select ‘Import and Export’.

• A pop up window opens, select ‘Import from another program or file’ and click ‘Next’ to move further in this process. From various available options select ‘Comma Separated Values (Windows)’ and click ‘Next’.

• Click ‘Next’ after typing the *.* in the file name text box. Now select the file in which, you have exported all the contacts during export process through Lotus Notes and click ‘OK’. After this click ‘Next’ to proceed further.

• Select the ‘Contacts’ folder where you want the contacts to be imported and click ‘Next’.

• Make sure that the correct files are listed under ‘The following actions will be performed’. After that to map the contact fields that you want to use click ‘Map Custom Fields’.

• Now click ‘Finish’ to import the contacts.

However, it may be possible that you find this process time taking and tedious, thus for those cases use of an efficient Lotus Notes to Outlook converter tool is recommended. Reliable Notes to Outlook converter software not only moves contacts, but it also lets you export entire Lotus Notes mailbox items, such as emails, attachments, calendar entries, contacts, etc to Outlook.

Some robust tools of this category let you save the converted Lotus Notes email items as PST, EML, or MSG files as well.
