Twitter has come up with a great way of running advertisements with fun and ease. The ad campaigns can now be set up in no time using tweeted messages. The company started the year with around 200 million active users and there were predictions that it will increase their revenues to around $545 million in 2013.
Twitter Inc. has provided the marketers with a reason to rejoice. And we are talking here about real marketers, not the ones that buy fake Twitter followers to appear famous. Yesterday the company announced the launch of its new software which will be used to make ad campaigns planning and maintaining an easier task for marketers.
This is a big step for Twitter and defines the intentions of the company towards making a public offering soon. The San Francisco based company new API will make it easier and for the big players and large companies to place ads on the social network. The API will let them automate the purchase of advertisements and save the labor and time.
Until now, the advertisers needed to manually set up their ad campaigns. They were asked to manually fill details like the amount allocated towards the campaign, the targeted audience for the ad, the length of the campaign etc. This refrained some marketing companies from setting up large number of ad campaigns as it was time consuming.
April Underwood, a product manager at Twitter said during an interview that the new API is brought in to make advertising an easy affair for medium/large organizations who want to set up a considerable number of ad campaigns. The company has been testing this new API for almost a month now.
Similar API’s are already functional on Facebook and Google. The social media giant Facebook Inc. brought similar API in 2011, merely a year before its IPO. It is estimated by research firms like eMarketer that Facebook generates 60 percent of its advertisement revenue through the new API.
This new API will allow two types of ads to be placed: Promoted Accounts and Promoted Tweets. The Promoted Tweets are small messages which will be shared to a wider audience and to more Twitter users, and the Promoted Account will be a service available to companies who which to increase the number of followers on their accounts.
The company started talking about this release over 2 years ago. It is all in the hands of the marketers now. Twitter will for sure see an increase in revenues this year thanks to their new API.
