I don't know about you, but I've also experienced the kind offers of friends and relatives with absolutely no plumbing credentials to come and 'lend a hand', with absolutely disastrous consequences. I've well and truly learnt my lesson.
Now, whenever I sense even the telltale hint of a plumbing problem, I call a firm like Pipe Perfection. Most of the things we take for granted in the home are dependent on a pipe to get them there. That includes the internet, ventilation, water, heat, electricity.
Despite their wonderful simplicity and usefulness, most people can't manage and repair their own pipes themselves, and unless you are a trained plumber or builder who specialises in pipes, you probably couldn't either.
For example, could you identify and safely fix a gas leak? Would you like to risk it? Gas is a great cost effective way to heat your home and power your stove, but in its naked form it's dangerous for human consumption. A gas leak can lead to a fire if undiagnosed, so if you suspect gas in your home, don't risk it. Make sure everything's as it should be.
The same is true of a blocked drain. Backed up sewage is a health hazard. Dealing with any suspected blockages immediately will save you time and money. If water is draining slowly or there is a bad smell, get onto it!
