What Is The Impact Of Google Penguin?

In April 2012, Google launched the Penguin update in an attempt to capture sites which are said to be spamming Google’s search results. In particular, Google was targeting sites known to buy links or chose to obtain the links through link networks designed primarily to boost Google search results rankings.

The impact of such a move by the search engine provider is that it attempts to level the playing field when it comes to the whole process of search engine optimization (SEO) in New York and other cities.

In particular, the last Penguin update aims at reducing search engine rankings of sites that are considered to be in violation of the Google Webmaster’s Guidelines using black-hat SEO techniques like keyword stuffing among other techniques.

By Google doing so, marketing companies doing SEO in NY and other places got a big boost when it comes to using the internet in promoting businesses through leveraging its power as a marketing tool and using white-hat techniques.

Effect of Penguin on Google’s Search Results

In general, SEO companies were having it rough up until the launching of the Penguin update as most of them were losing business to sites which used unscrupulous means to boost rankings on Google search results. However, Penguin only affects about 3% of search queries in English and about the same percentage of queries in other languages like Chinese, Arabic, and German.

Impact Of Google Penguin?

According to Google’s Matt Cutts, the Penguin update released on May 25, 2012 dubbed Penguin 1.1 was expected to have about 0.1% effect of searches advanced in English. This depended highly on the fundamental principle on which the update was developed.

The Penguin 1.1 update was expected to penalize sites that employ techniques that are considered manipulative with the intention of boosting rankings. The latest update (Penguin 3) released on October 5, 2012 has an overall effect of 0.3% of all search queries.

After the release of the update, Google prepared two feedback forms, one designed for users who would like to report on spam websites that still rank highly on searches, and those who thought that their sites were unfairly affected by the update.

The results were that out of approximately 700,000 results obtained, Matt Cutts explained that 25,000 of them did not use natural links and around 600,000 of the results obtained were about black hat.

With the impact of the latest Penguin update on how websites are ranked on every search results, it is expected that companies doing SEO in NY with white-hat techniques will potentially attract more leads to businesses thus increasing sales. To learn more about SEO, click here.
