There is a ton of information out there to read on Google, but sitting at a computer reading it is no fun. This is why it's great to be able to check out your favorite sports blog while lying back on the couch with your Nexus 7 in one hand and a cup of tea in the other. Make sure to bookmark your favourite blogs and it will be easy to quickly flick through the most interesting and relevant sites.

The Nexus 7 is also great for watching your favourite sports when you're not sitting in front of the TV. Again, you won't have an internet connection necessarily, but if you're in a hotel room or just in another room of your house, then apps like the ESPN app, BBC iPlayer and others are ideal.

Even YouTube is a great place to watch highlights and clips from recent games or interviews and other materials. I'll often prop my Nexus 7 up in the kitchen while washing dishes - that way it's a lot less boring.

There are quite a few fun games on the Nexus 7 for those looking to play some simulated sports. Some of these are serious attempts at simulating the games themselves or managing teams (Championship Manager is just as addictive as it ever was), but others can be a fun momentary distraction. One of the best is Super Stickman Golf 2 which is like a cross between Worms Armageddon and... well golf.

If you want to experience real gaming on your Nexus 7 though and put its large screen to good use (large compared to a phone that is...), then you should definitely check out the OnLive App, which allows you to stream games directly to your device and play them over your WiFi connection at home. You will need a controller for many of these though.
