How To Blog From A Coffee Shop - 5 Tips

If you’re a blogger yourself, you’ll know that there are days when it’s hard to think about what to blog. You can easily run out of topics to write and when that happens, it’s quite challenging to find inspiration for new topics.

Of course, if you’re a blogger working for someone else who hands you a topic every day then this doesn't concern you in any way, but in most cases, bloggers are on their own, and mental block is a very common problem.

A Trip to the Cafe

So what do bloggers do to unblock their minds? Some of them go to a coffee shop or a cafe to blog. Why is that? Aside from the very casual setting, bloggers can get inspiration from every single thing around them.

Sometimes, it just takes a whole new setting to get your mind back to work. Not to mention the chance to drink your favorite coffee beverage.

The only way to know if this will work for you is to go ahead and give it a try. But before you do, here are five tips that will help you in your quest to create and manage awesome posts when blogging from a coffee shop:

1. Use Cloud Backup Tools

Actually, this tip isn’t just for coffee shop bloggers, every blogger in the world will benefit from this, and especially people who do offline blogging. How sure are you that your laptop or computer hard drive won’t die on you? Given the uncertainty, you must take the initiative to protect your blog files from such impending doom.

Use cloud backup tools or data synchronization tools like SugarSync to store your files in an online database. If anything happens to your hard drive or if you lose your flash drive, you can always access your files remotely.

2. Use Offline Blogging Applications

Some coffee shops will actually require you to be a member of one of their programs if you want to use Wi-Fi (by the way, I think this is shameful). To go around the absence of an internet connection, use an offline blogging tool.

Offline blogging tools work similarly to Word processors, but their major advantage is that you can sync every new post you write to your blog directly. Just save your post and then upload it to your blog once you are connected to the internet. It will also help with formatting your post accordingly (less time and effort).

The best offline blogging tool out there has to be Windows Live Writer (free). It works only on Windows, though.

3. Use Feedly RSS Reader

Feedly replaces the soon-to-be extinct Google Reader. Using this RSS reader will help you discover new content and topics to write about. Feedly will notify you of any new content posted on your favorite sites. That way, you don’t need to keep track of each of them every single day. An RSS reader is very handy, especially when you need to get inspiration for writing.

4. Use Task Management Tools

Offline blogging in a cafe might make you forget that you need to post something at a specific time of the day. Well, this will never happen if you use a scheduling task management tool like Remember the Milk. Honestly, I adore the name and it really suits the purpose of the whole app.

Not only will such tool help remind you that you need to upload a post or create a new one, you can also use the tool for managing daily tasks like order supplies, submit reports, update Twitter post, and so on.

5. Make Yourself Comfortable

Writing in a cafe may be something out of your comfort zone. So, what you need to do is make it more comfortable for you to be more productive. Bring headphones to block the ambient noise that can distract you. If you don’t like using the touch pad on your laptop, bring a mouse. If you want to feel more comfortable when sitting down, why not bring a small pillow?

Again, maybe a change in setting is all you need to get new inspiration for your blog. Go ahead and try it out. Then feel free to come back and let me know what you think about the idea.
