Understanding the Connection Between SERP and Backlinks

It is not yet clear to even highly-experienced online marketers how search engine results pages and backlinks are connected. There have been lively debates regarding this topic on several discussion boards and forums, but no concrete conclusion has been reached as yet.

Thus far, all that SEO professionals and SEO service providers have come up with theories that seem to be more opinion-based than proof-based. It would be advisable, therefore, to take these theories at face value only.

Regardless of whether these theories hold any truth or not, it is advisable to get on with your link building, bearing in mind that backlinks should be search engine optimized for improved results. Ensure that these hyperlinks display keywords that are relevant to your specific niche. This is referred to as anchor text.

When visitors search for this niche by using certain keywords or key phrases, your website should show up. There is no guarantee of your website showing up, however, if your backlinks have come from lesser-known and less authoritative websites. Most webmasters are in concurrence with this theory, at least.

Whether the backlinks generate from outside a domain or from within a domain, each one of them has a role to play in increasing or decreasing the ranking of your web pages.

Fluctuation in search engine page ranking is caused by the frequency/infrequency of your backlinks showing up, the high/low volume of your hyperlinks, and the current page ranking of the source of your backlinks.

Even experts cannot comment on how many backlinks are needed approximately to ensure a good page rank, however all they know is that volume plus quality is vital to be noticed by Google. Only when your website shows up consistently when specific keywords are keyed in, will Google consider awarding you with a top page rank.

Sometimes, it does happen that a website with a lower page ranking suddenly turns up on the very first search engine results page. This occurrence has led people to believe that when SERP ranking declines, a website’s ranking also comes down. Thus, hitherto lower-ranked web pages find their way to the top.

This would indicate that there is an interdependency between search engine results page and backlinks. Keep this aspect in mind when you are formulating your search engine optimization strategy.

While SERP ranking is linked to the current status of a website and sites linking to it, page ranking is connected to the saved database of the search engine. It cannot be emphasised enough that you should check out websites for trustworthiness, credibility and relevance, before you hand over your backlinks to them.

If you find the job too much to handle, take the help of backlink building companies; again, legitimate ones. Never, ever, go in for illegal methods or black hat methods to gain a higher page ranking. fYou do not wish search engines to gain a negative impression of you. The impression will not only affect your own website, but also every web page that is linked to yours.
