As smartphone technology has increased a great deal in recent years it is important to note that they have been given features which you may have in other devices in your collection. With this in mind it is worth considering getting rid of one or two other devices and using only your touch screen phone – but is this practical?
Make sure that you get a handset that either has a good amount of on-board storage (the iPhone goes up to 64 GB) or find one that has a microSD slot for additional storage. The microSD can often take the storage up to more than 32GB. If neither of these is good then think about cloud storage.
In some cases you may be able to get a few GBs of storage online free of charge. Consider a handset that comes with a 3.5 mm headphone jack too, as this gives more options for headphones and earphones.
You can set the mobile phone up in the car in the same way that you would a sat-nav and it will perform in the same way. The only downside to this is that having the GPS and the 3G on at the same time is sure to drain the battery, so make sure you have an in-car charger.
There is one rider to this – If you are lost in the wilds with no 3G coverage then your phone’s sat-nav app will not be a lot of use.
If you have the right apps installed then you can also keep notes and reminders in place and you can check up on everything from traffic reports to the weather. It may never be a complete replacement for a laptop but it does mean that you are not obliged to take the laptop with you wherever you go.
. . . . .
In order to replace other devices you need to make sure that the smartphone that you have is up to the job and that you can add the right apps. Once you have done this then you can cut down on the number of things that you need to carry around with you. This is particularly important if you need your smartphone for work and once you begin to make the transition you will wonder what you ever did without it.

MP3 player
Most people have owned an MP3 player at one time or another and will have used them regularly. However, now that smartphones are being equipped with music players and plenty of storage space you could do away with the MP3 player altogether.Make sure that you get a handset that either has a good amount of on-board storage (the iPhone goes up to 64 GB) or find one that has a microSD slot for additional storage. Sat-Nav
A standalone sat-nav is something that is rapidly going out of style now that mobile phones are being equipped with apps and GPS to do the same job. You can tap in the address of the place that you are going to and it will provide you with the directions and audio instructions. You can set the mobile phone up in the car in the same way that you would a sat-nav and it will perform in the same way. The only downside to this is that having the GPS and the 3G on at the same time is sure to drain the battery, so make sure you have an in-car charger.

Laptop
This is where the smartphone comes in to its own. You can ditch the laptop if you are out and about as the smartphone has the ability to carry out a number of tasks in its stead. You can access email and Internet on it, edit office documents, organize your meetings and contacts and generally do everything you need.If you have the right apps installed then you can also keep notes and reminders in place and you can check up on everything from traffic reports to the weather.
