If you thought cars were already advanced, wait until you see what's coming. In the coming years there are going to be some amazing advancements in the technology found in our vehicles. Already in development, it won't be long before you see some of these in your new car.

Cars that Talk to Each Other

There is has been an increasing emphasis on building cars that can communicate with each other. It is hoped that such a move will allow for accidents to be reduced, as cars will be able to anticipate such collisions ahead of time.

This technology is known as "Vehicle to Vehicle" communication or more simply "V2V". It will work through the use of wireless signals that will allow for cars to determine dangers ahead of time, making thousands of calculations as to whether or not a collision with another vehicle is likely and what should be done to prevent it.

Self-Driving Cars

The dream of many people who hate driving, self-driving cars are almost here. In fact they already exist, as companies such as Google have tested some creations of their own, on public roads. There are hopes that self-driving cars will become mainstream in the next decade or so as the technology becomes more refined.

Virtual Reality Dashboards

Imagine the GPS...but on the windshield. This is what a virtual reality dashboard would be like. It would show you a variety of information including places of interest, all on the car windscreen in real-time. Car companies like BMW are already testing this kind of technology out, trialling it on some of their newer cars.

Airbags Outside the Car

Companies such as Mercedes have developed airbags that deploy outside the car. This means that they have the chance to stop an accident before it even happens. The external airbags can be used to slow the car, or cushion a collision.

Body Panels that Store Energy

Though electric cars are becoming more and more popular, an issue with many of them is that the batteries take up too much space. This could be dealt with using the help of some body panels that store energy.

Research is being done to develop some body panels that store energy more efficiently than the current car batteries of today, whilst also taking up less space. The fact that they store more energy and take up less space means that the electric cars of tomorrow will be far more energy efficient than modern electric vehicles.

Welcome to the Future

The future is already here when it comes to advanced cars, the only thing you need to do is wait it out a little longer. With companies such as BMW and Mercedes already trialing advanced systems in their cars, it won’t be long before you’re able to read a book and drive a car at the same time.
