NOT to Become a Full-time BloggerWhat are your career dreams? If you have been working in a corporate setting for a while, you might be dreaming about ditching your day job for a work at home one. And with the Internet being the main venue for work at home jobs, blogging is a prime candidate.

It is not surprising. There are so many sites and articles parading the benefits of being a full-time work at home blogger. There are a handful of success stories. But at the end of the day, you really need to think things through and see how feasible it will be for you to forego your regular job (with regular pay) and become a full-time blogger.

I am going to bring up some points that are good reasons not to do this. Don’t get me wrong – becoming a full-time blogger can be fulfilling in many ways. It can be a steady and rewarding source of income. However, it is not for everyone. So, just to make things realistic, here are some reasons why you should consider NOT becoming a full-time blogger.

You work best under a certain degree of supervision.

Think long and hard about this one. Be totally honest with yourself. I don’t think many people will like to admit to others – and themselves – that they work better when they are accountable to someone else, like a supervisor. However, you have to realize that when you go full-time blogging for yourself, you will have total freedom and will be accountable only to yourself.
This may seem like your version of paradise, but many freelancers have found out, the hard way, that they are not cut out for this setting after all. So, before you take the leap, search yourself thoroughly and make sure you can be effective and efficient without having to answer to a superior most of the time.

You do not have a conducive working area at home – or elsewhere.

Another misconception that many employees have is that working at home is so much easier than having to sit behind a desk in the office. There is some truth to this, as one is usually more comfortable at home. However, that comfort can also have some disadvantages. The bed or couch may be soft and comfortable, but that can lead to so many other distractions.
Then there’s the television. The unsupervised Internet access. And so on. Make sure that you will have a room, a corner, or even an outside location where you can work unhindered and undistracted. Otherwise, working at home may not be for you.

You absolutely don’t have the head for numbers and finances.

I suppose every person can take care of his finances to a certain degree. However, when you go full-time working on your own, you have to monitor everything that comes in and everything that goes out. You also have to deal with your own taxes, keep your books, and so much more The good news: if you can afford it, you can take on the services of an accountant.
