iPhone 5: The Future or The Beginning of The End

As the release date for Apple’s iPhone 5 looms there is countless speculation mounting as to whether Steve Job’s death will have a lasting effect on the future of Apple, or whether the procedures were put into place to secure the productive future of Apple before his untimely death in October last year.

When the iPhone 4S was released in the same month of Jobs’ death, it was met with a mixed reaction. Some loved the new features, whereas others speculated as to whether it was a rush job that showed that their fearless leader was the only person who could keep Apple’s standing as the market leader going with the same gusto and momentum.

The Future of Apple

When a large corporation that loses their leader – even a charismatic genius who was the figurehead and face of the business – it can have a devastating effect. But Apple has soldiered on and now the release of the iPhone 5 is imminent, with the release date expected between 12-21 September this year.

The features have been kept pretty under wraps, but there are grapevine rumblings of a slimmer, lighter design but with a 4.2 inch screen, which is bigger than the 4S. With Android and iOS owning 85% of the smartphone market, it is not difficult to expect the iPhone to smash the market when it is released, regardless of the features it possesses.

A Competitive Market

However, there is an increasing worry that Apple is slowly running out of ideas, allowing the likes of Samsung and Nokia to sneak under the radar and steal their thunder. It is going to be taxing times ahead, and it will be very interesting to see what happens when the Christmas shopping market opens around the November-December period. Nokia and Motorola have new phones being released to coincide with the festive holidays, so Apple will have plenty of rivals come Christmas time.

When Steve Jobs was at the helm, Apple was incredibly advanced and ahead of the curve, but in all aspects of business, competition is tough, and the competition for Apple are gaining momentum and improving all the time.

It could mean that Apple could lose their crown as the market leader – even if it is just for a short time – but one thing is for sure: They will come back fighting. And the more competitive the market gets, the better it is for the consumer, who will always wait for the release of an Apple product with frenzied anticipation.
