Smart Sunglasses Developed Which Detect Human Emotions

Smart Sunglasses
The human race to date have developed sunglasses which protect us from the harmful UV rays of the sun and to a lesser extent help us to look good while on holiday, but a research team in New York claim to have developed sunglasses which can detect subtleties in human emotion for clever shades which go above and beyond an average pair of sunglasses’ job description.

Research Conducted
It is said that humans evolved to see in colour due to the evolutionary benefits colour hue has on determining another person’s emotional state by the colour of their skin, and this notion has been adapted to transform a pair of what look like ordinary sunglasses, into an advanced emotion and trauma detecting device.

2AI Labs are led by researcher Mark Changizi, who is testing such a device in two New York based hospitals, with the smart specs capable of providing the wearer with a detailed visual of blood beneath the surface of the skin, highlighting certain illnesses or emotional states that the naked eye couldn’t possibly determine.

Impact on Medicine
The hospital based research is no coincidence, with Changizi and his team believing such technology could have a huge impact on medicine as a whole, with doctors reporting at the Mount Sinai Hospital that surprising visual detail occurred when using the sunglasses, seeing a potential ability for healthcare staff across the world to more quickly and accurately detect certain illnesses.

The fact that the shades don’t need any constant power source means that doctors and nurses could wear them regularly in preparation for blood tests or in an emergency when the cause of trauma needs to be assessed immediately, removing the need for time consuming set up of complex monitor systems found on wards.

How The Glasses Work
The strikingly perceptive visuals are made possible through the use of three different filters which react together to detect these subtle changes in skin colour and blood. The vein finder acts to increase the wearer’s perception of skin oxygenation which could assist blood taking procedures, while the trauma detector detects any abnormalities beneath the skin’s surface through the use of in-built advanced haemoglobin isolation technology, while the third filter blends and enhances the overall effect.

When are they Released?
Plans are in place to release the eyewear to consumers imminently, with the technology being similar to that of existing gadgets such as the Kinect emotion and motion sensing device seen as an Xbox 360 peripheral.

You might want to avoid the shades as a poker player though, or if you are a compulsive liar, as partners, friends, rivals and enemies will all be able to detect colors changes such as red as a sign of anger or embarrassment, while green oxygenation levels hues signify fear, meaning it will be hard to hide your emotions ever again.
