First of all if you’re not using an Exchange mail type service, as soon as you are done reading this article, please talk to your IT people to make the switch! You wouldn't believe the joy in having opened an email on your phone and it showing up opened in your desktop inbox instantaneously, or vice versa.
This also goes the same for the calendar. If you have an iPhone and can't accept an invitation for a meeting on your phone, this issue is gone overnight if you make the switch! Okay, now that you will be getting an Exchange mail, or similar service or already have one let’s talk dollars and sense!
If you're a small or medium sized company especially if you have less than 10 email addresses you should not be paying anything for this service.
Note: You can make 1 catch all email address so if you feel the need to have careers@, hr@ or a million of other possibilities it can go it one general catch all account!
Our preference is Google Apps, as it is completely free and very easy to set up. Another reason why I love Google Apps so much is because I can use Gmail as my mail client and take advantage of all of the plug-ins and labs they have. While I am on this topic check out the plug-in called Rapportive.
It displays all of the social profiles of the person you are sending the email to.
The real SEO purpose of this plug-in is to type in likely email addresses of a contact (when you don't know their email address), with the success message when you find them being their social profile loading in your Gmail app! While we can’t give you exact instructions to make the switch as they vary with every registrar your domain name is registered to. The cut over instructions provided by Google are extremely easy to follow.
There is also a supreme satisfaction when you tweak your site along with Google apps so that if you go to mail.yoursite.com it provides a login to your email accounts. If you take the time to brand it – it can really make your boutique organization feel like you are in the major leagues.
Did we mention that you can share contacts between all members of your team? You would not believe how much of an asset this is until you have it.
