All those sites need content and people are turning to freelance writing to either supplement their income, or they're quitting their jobs and doing it full-time. People need content and they're in the perfect position to supply it. When you start out writing online you can't just throw yourself into it without some special consideration to what you'll need.

Just like with any business, a freelance writer needs the right tools. Without the right tools you won't be able to do your job properly, or even at all. A quality Keyboard

Typing all the time is great if you can do it quickly, but if you have a horrible keyboard it means you will type much slower than you normally would. The important thing is that the keyboard can keep up with your thoughts. It doesn't matter if you make mistakes because when you come to edit articles you can easily correct them, but if you can't keep up with your thoughts you will begin to forget stuff before you have a chance to type it.

A new iPad

The iPad is great for writers because you can work from anywhere and you don't need anything else. You won't be able to write full articles on the on-screen keyboard, but you will be able to edit articles and take notes using applications like Evernote.

It means you can have a break and drive down to a coffee shop whenever you want. If you plan on working there for a while I'd say you need a good wireless keyboard. Then you are free to work anywhere.

A full Kindle

They say that being a good writer takes time, and practice is essential. It definitely is, but reading is nearly as essential. If you don't read anything you can't expect to get better. I'm not talking about books that teach you to write, but books from great writers you can steal stuff from. Stealing from another writer isn't a bad thing and I'm not telling you to lift words. Just look at their style and test it out in your own articles. That means you need a Kindle full of great books.

An external hard drive

Imagine waking up one day and everything is gone. You can't afford this to happen when you're doing work for other people. You could drop your computer or spill coffee on it, then what would you do? If you had an external hard drive with all your articles you could easily hook it up to a different computer and continue with your work. If something happened to your computer you would either have to wait days until it was fixed, or all your work would be gone forever.

A Notepad and Pen

This is the most simple thing in the world and you probably wouldn't think to use it. I'm only telling you because it's so important to have a notepad by your side. Just because you type on a computer is no excuse.

You'll have ideas pop into your head about what to write and if you don't have one with you it will be impossible to jot them down. It's not like you can open up a new word document and write a few sentences when you think of something. You would never find them again.
