Sony has an amazing pedigree when it comes to producing games consoles. Their original PlayStation became the model for all successful consoles from then on in. Its compact size makes it perfect for carrying around and its action is reminiscent of its console counterparts- making it an easy to adapt to device. Nintendo DS

Nintendo have done in recent years what many in the gaming world thought impossible; namely, the conversion of the mass public to gaming. There are now hundreds of games that cater to the mass market such as the Jamie Oliver cooking game all available on the DS- this has been Nintendo’s success, building a family-friendly, all-inclusive gaming experience.

As such, the DS may not be at the top of many ‘serious’ gamers’ lists but it can’t be beat for kids and those new to the world of graphics, levels and cheats. Its sturdy design and easy-to-use functionality make the DS a really simple and fun device to use- it’s also pretty compact with a decent battery life, making it excellent for gaming on the go. For the serious gamer you may want to sell Nintendo DS and move up to a PSP.

Sony Tablet S

Another entry from Sony, the Tablet S may not be what you expect from a gaming machine but it truly does deliver. The Tablet S is as you may have guessed is a tablet and not a dedicated gaming machine- offering you a whole host of other very cool and useful features so that you can maybe squeeze in a little bit of work before playing again.

Its huge screen and high-resolution makes gaming an absolute pleasure and what’s more the Tablet S offers the entire back catalogue of original PlayStation One games too- plenty to keep even the keenest gamer busy for months!


Gameboy Original
We can hardly write a rundown of the best hand-held gaming machines without mentioning the true original. For people of a certain age, there’s nothing quite like an original Gameboy. Indeed, with retro chic still going strong in the fashion world there may not be a better time to own this sturdy piece of gaming history for next to nothing.

What the Gameboy lacks in eye-watering graphics it more than makes up for in gameplay; there are thousands of games which are just as challenging as their modern counterparts- though you might not want to sell xbox 360 for it. Not only will you not feel too bad about losing it but everyone will want to have a go on the games machine that they know and love.
