Very few people throughout the world today are still unaware of the fact that this world is completely dominated by the digital age.  Technology continues to advance in more ways than even the most creative science-fiction authors were able to write about in their novels and short stories several decades ago.

There are five key devices that changed the world of technology and even the world overall as we know it today.  What are these monumental devices?

The Computer

The computer is considered by many as being one of the pioneer elements of the technology world.  Even though the television had been able to cause its own ripple effect within the waters of digital electronics at that time, the invention of the personal computer escalated the digital age in much further than the television ever could and put it on the fast track towards making a global impact that would drastically change everything forever.

The MP3 Player

The MP3 player and other comparable portable media players completely changed the world of music and media forever when it was released.  Many people view it as the lovechild of the internet and the computer, because it was the collaboration of those two elements that allowed traditional music to be reformatted and sold online through digital stores.

When digital media started to gain popularity, a wide range of brands and companies rushed to design, develop and distribute their own versions of quality MP3 players.

USB Sticks

Once upon a time, computer hard drives were only able to be installed and operated within computers.  Over time, though, that started to change as well because external hard drives were created and became popular.

After external hard drives gained popularity, developers and design teams strived to make them much smaller for portability purposes and added convenience.  That was when USB sticks became the digital phenomenon that took over the world.  Nowadays, they are everywhere.  There are custom USB sticks, promotion USB sticks used by companies, custom USB flash drives and devices with much more USB storage available for added convenience and efficiency.

The Smartphone

Even though regular cell phones were pioneers of the telecommunications industry, there came a time when (as with any other technology device) they no longer satisfied the needs of the average consumer.  Smartphones unlocked a much more expanded world of capabilities and services that could now be done with these portable devices.

Blackberries and Palm Pilots were the fire-starters of the realm of smartphones, but now they are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the different types of smartphones that are currently available.

The e-Reader

Once the general concept of digital media was introduced to the world, it was only a matter of time before all forms of media, music and literature would eventually have to make the same transition as well.  The wave of eBooks flooded the world of literature in a way that most expert analysts were not even able to accurately predict.

As with everything else within the realm of digital media, the e-Reader and other mobile devices that could read eBooks starting popping up seemingly overnight to meet the growing demand of the average consumer.
