Ice Cream Or Jelly Beans - The Samsung Galaxy Note II Vs. The LG Optimus G

Buying a new phone is a big decision. Particularly if you're looking for a top of the range device that's going to set you back a few hundred pounds. So it's important that you make a good decision.

Generally, Android operating system phones are a pretty good idea, they're fast, sleek, reliable and easy to use. However, there are a lot of great Android devices on the market nowadays, and choosing between them can be hard.

Really, the only way that you can be sure that you're making a good decision is by checking out the specs on the phones that you're considering and seeing how they compare. Which is exactly what we do. Today we're looking at two Android phones, the Samsung Galaxy Note II and the LG Optimus G.

They retail for similar prices with most mobile operators and are both marketed as top of the range devices. We put them to the test, head to head, to find out how they compare and exactly what their differences are. They're both great phones, but there can be only one winner. Read on to find out which one we recommend.

Why You Might Want an LG Optimus G...

The LG has a few advantages over the Samsung. For a start, it has a better screen. The display on the Optimus has around ten per cent higher resolution and it also has about twenty per cent more PPI (pixels per inch). These two things combined mean that the picture quality on the Optimus is crisper, brighter and more vivid than that on the Galaxy.

The Optimus also has a higher resolution camera, coming with a massive 13 MP in built device as compared to the standard 8 MP cam on the Samsung. This means that photos taken with the Optimus are simply better quality and have more fine detail.

Finally, the Optimus is much more portable than the Galaxy. It's around thirty per cent smaller, ten per cent thinner and about twenty per cent lighter, which is a pretty big difference for something that's going to be carried around in your pocket all day.

Why You Might Want a Samsung Galaxy Note II...

But the Galaxy has a few advantages of its own. It has a much larger screen than the LG, measuring in at five and a half inches over the LG's 4.7 inches. It also has a lot more internal storage, coming with 64 GB of internal memory versus 32 GB on the LG.

That means that you can store a lot more music, photos, data and games on the Galaxy. The Samsung runs a slightly faster processor, coming with a 1600 MHz processor as opposed to the LG's 1500 MHz one, making it faster, more powerful and more responsive. Finally, you get faster maximum data speeds on the Galaxy, meaning quicker downloading and faster opening of web pages.

So, Which One is the Better Deal?

It is a tough choice, but in the end our recommendation goes with the Samsung Galaxy Note II. The extra processing power, more storage space and in particular the larger screen size make the Samsung a better buy than the LG Optimus G.
