How Does A Lie Detector Test Work?
The goal of a lie detector or polygraph test is to see if the person being examined is telling the truth or lying when answering certain questions. When a person takes a polygraph test, four to six sensor wires are attached to him.A polygraph is a machine in which the multiple signals from the sensors are recorded on a single strip of moving paper (hence the name polygraph) the sensors usually record breathing rate, pulse, blood pressure, perspiration. Sometimes a polygraph will also record things like arm and leg movement.
At the beginning of the test the qualified examiner asks three or four simple questions to establish the normal results for the person's signals. Then the real questions are asked. Throughout questioning, all of the person's signals are recorded on the moving paper.
During and after the test the polygraph examiner can look at the graphs and see if there is any change in the vital signs such as a faster heart rate, higher blood pressure or increased perspiration could indicate that the person is lying.
A well trained examiner can detect lying with high accuracy, however the examiners interpretation is subjective and everyone is different and therefore reacts differently to lying it could be possible to fool the polygraph.
Find Out What The Tester Is Looking For
If it is for infidelity it will be your partner who is driving the way the test will go. You will know this person so think about what it is about the situation that has upset them the most and do not admit to it.
Practice Countermeasures In Advance
Practice countermeasures so that when it comes to test day you are thoroughly prepared. Remember the examiner is not on your side and may try to trick you before the test begins. It is a good idea to purchase a high quality anti perspiring deodorant and put it on your fingers and palms the night before and then again in the morning but include your forehead and nose. How To Cheat The Test
Say only what needs to be said. You only need to say yes or no. Don’t admit to anything relevant no matter what the chart looks like the examiner will use your confession. Never joke around and give firm serious answers without hesitation.Breathe normally but alter breathing rate between questions as the examiner will compare the signals with controlled questions, relevant questions and when you are not being asked a question. To change your blood pressure you should count backward really quickly or do some quick long division.
Watch out for the post test interview as the examiner may leave you alone in the room for a while disconnected from the polygraph and then come back in and claim to know you are lying. Remain calm and repeat your denial and don’t change your argument. If you follow these instructions it is quite possible to fool the polygraph.
