The smartphone market, which has by now witnessed the advent and rise of two dominative operating systems – the iOS and Android, is ready to witness the arrival of another.

Yes, one of the most preferred computing operating systems, Ubuntu, is ready to take a huge leap and is all set to make an entry into the smartphone market as an OS for the mobiles. Read on to learn more.

The Ubuntu Phone OS:

The popular Linux based open source operating system for smartphones is scheduled for an October unveiling, and has been designed to offer a much immersive experience to users more than what the existing OS offer.

According to sources, a number of features have been infused into the OS and is believed that smartphones with Ubuntu can be connected to a larger display, run several applications including those of Windows and wirelessly connect to peripherals like mouse, keyboard and other input devices.

Resources claim that the Ubuntu is developed to offer much of a computing experience to the users and facilitate the corporate sector in using a single platform or platform powered device to access multiple data.

Canonical, the company that manufactures devices for the OS claims that the smartphones powered by Ubuntu will hit the stores in October. It has also shared the fact that the upcoming operating system will be made available to the developers later this month for testing purposes and by the end of October, the device will be available for purchase.

Canonical even made a claim that it would soon roll out an OS version that would run on devices like Samsung Galaxy OS, so that developers could build apps for the platform. The platform will feature web applications alongside the operating system’s native applications, allowing the user to have a complete PC style experience on his smartphone.

The Features of Ubuntu Phone OS:

Features of the yet-to-debut OS are quite impressive. The platform makes use of all the corners and edges of the device and allows users to completely take control of what they view and watch, with simple swipe gestures.

Developers claim that the OS is designed to perform a number of tasks like transitioning between apps and accessing content simply by swiping one of the edges of the screen. Also, users can ‘Favorite’ their preferred apps and access them anytime by swiping over the left portion of the screen.

Similarly, a swipe from the right-2-left of the screen will instantly open the last application run by the user, and if he wants to view the active apps on the phone, all he has to do is just swipe the screen from left-2-right and the apps that are running currently will appear.

The platform also boasts of an efficient multi-tasking feature that allows users to switch between various apps by swiping over the right edge of the screen, and other convenient options that can be performed with simple touch based gestures.

The OS indeed looks promising with its convenient features. Let’s hope the device functions the same way and manages to offer an immersive experience to its users as it claims! Look out for the device in October 2013.
