The Future of 4K Televisions

The next step to being actually in the shows and movies we watch, is the next evolution of televisions being produced by Sony, and LG. These TVs are four times better than 1080p televisions, and contain up to 4,000pixels horizontally, hence the moniker 4K.

These televisions were introduced this year at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). They were greeted with the whole gamut of reviews from high acclaim to pessimistic criticism. With any new introduction there is a feeling of overwhelming.

The 4K televisions produce such a sharp picture, bright screen; they place the audience closer to the action than any of its predecessors. This is great news for the family that can afford such a costly television. The new releases are set to cost thousands of dollars more than HDTVs are today.

This makes the target market the people who can first, notice the difference between elite HDTVs, and second, can afford the difference. For upgrading, most people are going to be content with their inexpensive, still very high quality, television.

For buying a new television, most people will again, still, prefer the HDTV. It will not be until the 4K televisions are more accessible and widely distributed before its sales start to see an upward trend.
One of the issues with 4K televisions is that most films and shows, are not shot in a high enough resolution to make a real difference to be seen in these televisions.

Future of 4K Televisions

There are a select few samples to show off the capabilities in these TV's but they need to start filming shows and movies for the impact of the 4K TV to really be felt. This was also the same effect of Blu-Ray, but then more DVD’s were manufactured with this format, as well as DVD players became compatible. As history has shown, give the 4K television 18 months and it will become just as popular.

One thing that these televisions will be able to do right out of the box is connect to the home’s internet connecting it to the large library of entertainment stored in sites like Hulu and Netflix. Social media sites will also be able to connect to the TV allowing users to instantly tweet or update about their new purchase no doubt prompting a diaspora of friends to check out how the picture compares to what they are used to.

The success of the 4K television has yet to be decided and will not be seen until it is released and has a chance to compete with the well established HDTVs. It will be a tough battle at first, with the 4K television trying to shoulder its way in to the market, stealing customers of the former to the new and interesting Ultra HD.

It will be a tough sell, since the price tag is a far bigger factor to customers than the difference in picture. With the wide variety of HDTVs in all sizes and prices, new and refurbished, for the 4K television to pry them away will require not only its phenomenal picture but a cheaper price and more services included.
