Instagram is a free photo-sharing application that allows its users to share their images. It allows its users to not just click and share pictures, but also gives them the scope to edit and enhance their pictures.

It also offers other features like Hash Tags and Photo Maps that helps them connect with like-minded people and track their activities in the photographic world.

Though Instagram offers a variety of features for photo editing and sharing, not many users completely understand the benefit or reason to use the features. Once we understand the benefit of each feature, the experience of photo sharing would be enhanced.

Instagram features for sharing the image with the world.

What is Photo Map?

Photo Map allows users to display the location where they have taken the images on a map and also see if any other users have taken pictures in the same location. Toggling the ON/OFF switch beside the ‘Photo Map’ option will add the image to the users Photo Map.

The default setting in Instagram is to share the images with everyone. Users can change this setting to ‘Private’ to control the visibility of their photographs. Users can access their profile page and edit these settings.

They can choose the social network they want to share to and setup default accounts. Users can register multiple Twitter & Facebook accounts to their Instagram account. This will often get you more Instagram followers. They have the option to select the specific network like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr etc; they want to share to on the ‘Share’ screen.

Adding Captions and More

Once the user is happy with the image they have edited, they can add a caption, hash tags and tag other users before sharing the image. This allows them to speak about the image and reach other users who might be interested in that particular photo.

Instagram doesn’t allow users to edit the comments or caption they have submitted. If they want to make changes to the comments, users can delete and add a new one to replace the old one. After uploading a photo, if the user is not happy with the image, they can delete the photos, but only one photo can be deleted at a time.

Instagram also gives users the option to tweet other users’ photos. This feature is currently not available to Android users. To share other user’s photo to twitter, users need to tap the ‘…’ icon that appears below the other user’s caption or comments and click ‘Tweet’. Users can add Twitter handles and edit the text before they tweet the image. Once they are ready to post the tweet, they just need to click the send button.

When sharing images to Facebook, all Instagram photos are uploaded to a single default album named – ‘Instagram Photos’. If users wish to change the name of the album, they can log on to their Facebook account and change it. When they upload a photo from Instagram the next time, a new album ‘Instagram Photos’ would be created.
