Content and content marketing is very important to SEO campaigns these days. Very important. And that's an understatement. SEOs are paying a premium more than ever for the services of those who can create valuable, quality, insightful, and engaging content.

Content has become so important to SEO that it's even at the center of most Link Building campaigns i.e Guest Posting, broken link building, press release writing etc.

So all you need to succeed in SEO is a bunch of good writers right? Well, not necessarily. In this article I'm going to explain to you the 5 reasons why content editors are better for you and your SEO campaign than content writers. "Tomato, Tomato" right? Wrong again. There are a few fundamental differences between the two that are important to understand.

1) Content editors have the ability to write like content writers, but with an added ability to edit, moderate and review the content of others in a highly skilled fashion. 2) Content editors are more picky than content writers when it comes to writing grammar, style, messaging etc.

This usually is the case because writers are often incentivized for putting words on paper while editors are incentivized for making sure the content is actually good and can generate traffic. Big difference.

So now that you understand the 2 fundamental differences between editors and writers, here are the 5 reasons why you're better off hiring a Content Editor for your SEO campaign:

Reason #1: Editors Can Manage Multiple Freelance Writers

With the right editors you can leverage an army of freelance writers. This will allow you to increase your production while maintaining quality at the same time.

Reason #2: Editors Are More Strategic Thinking

Writers love to write. Beyond that is beyond their skill-set. Editors are much more strategic thinking by nature. They will help you strategically with your overall content marketing strategy so you can ensure your SEO results are continuing to thrive.

Reason #3: Editors Hold High Standards for Quality

As mentioned in the 3rd paragraph, editors are incentivized to ensure all content is top notch. Writers naturally are not.

Reason #4: Editors Can Learn Basics of SEO and Thrive

I have found through experience that Content Editors have the ability to learn SEO and adapt to it when necessary. Something many SEO managers have had trouble with when it comes to writers.

Reason #5: Editors Cover Full Content Marketing Strategy

And this is perhaps the most important reason. Content Editors end up overseeing not just blog posts and articles, but the following content marketing strategies as well:
  • guest posting
  • infographics
  • video content
  • memes
  • slideshow content (slideshares)
  • and more.

I'm not discouraging you from hiring Content Writers altogether. What I am saying is that I recommend making sure your Editors are place in first. Take your time in the hiring process to find a highly skilled, highly passionate individual who has experience as an editor either online or in print. Preferably online of course.

Once you have the right editors in place you will have the flexibility in hiring writers in-house or outsource if you choose. Either way you won't fail because of the Content Editors you have hired! If you find you need to buy some time while you are finding the right Content Editor(s), you could always consider hiring an SEO reseller in the meantime.
