This week as I was surfing the World Wide Web I noticed that there are new pieces of technology rolling out that are changing the way we live. Here are some of the new gizmos and apps that are changing the way we live:
New Gadgets and Apps That Are Changing Our Ways of Life
1. Iris scanning security
I read about new technology that can identify a person by their eyeballs. The argument is that people can forget usernames and passwords and people forget or lose identification badges. The great part about this technology is that you cannot just lose your eyeball per se. Another beautiful part of this technology is that it is hands free security.
No one needs to touch anything to be granted identification and it’s also extremely hard if not impossible to replicate someone else’s eyeballs, which makes fraud far more difficult. This is in stark contrast to identification cards that can be fabricated and usernames and passwords, which can be guessed or stolen.
We’re starting to see some iris scanning security at several corporations, schools, and foreign airports. The hope for those engineering this product is that the devices will be used everywhere to identify people.
2. Facebook Graph Search
The Facebook machine is churning out another function. This time the function reminds us of a Google search engine but it has some more features about it. Facebook graph search will allow people to search for specific persons, objects, or content that users on Facebook are creating.
For instance someone can search “videos taken in Dallas, Texas” and the search tool will pull up specific and relevant content posted on the Facebook website. It is an advanced search feature that shows up at the top of the Facebook.com website.

The tool is not yet available for their mobile application but we know that Facebook’s focus has been on their mobile platform so it is only a matter of time before it reaches the application.
3. Wearable Technology
Earlier this year Google rolled out “Google Glass” one of the first forms of high tech wearable technologies. These glasses can record videos, taking photos, answering questions on Google, show reminders and several other interesting functions. The device is operated by voice command so it provides and hand-free experience.
Speculation is flying about the next form of wearable technology and many believe Apple will lead the way in smart watches. As more and more people turn their eyes to wearable technology the future might look phone free. We’ll just have to see.
4. Square
Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey created a device that connects with your smart phone that will allow users to run debit and credit cards and process transactions without having to carry bulky card swiping equipment. This device has opened the door for smaller merchants who don’t normally process credit card transactions.
Technology will constantly evolve and change the way we live our lives. Technology is one of the reasons why my husband and I chose Smith Monitoring as our home security company. Smith Monitoring specializes in protective services and Keller home security.
Their app allows me to set the alarm even when I’m not at home and it helps when I leave and forget to set the alarm. What apps and technologies do you need to upgrade to?
