Why Email Spam Filters are so Important

It is often said that more than 70% of the emails sent in the world are spam, though it can often seem as though this figure should be a lot higher owing to the amount of time spent in offices sifting through emails about various medications, insurance and fake online shops.

However, more than simply being a nuisance, spam emails can actually be dangerous for the company, so it is crucial that you have a good spam filter for your office email service. One of the most inefficient uses of time is that spent on reading and deleting the endless barrage of spam emails which drop into your inbox all through the day.

Not only is it time consuming, it’s also very frustrating when you’re trying to work and find yourself constantly distracted by useless emails pinging into your inbox all the time. It can also mean that genuine, useful emails are lost amid all the spam, so important questions can go unanswered and you can miss information you need.

Another major issue when it comes to email spam is that many of these emails now look very convincing. Spammers have found ways to mimic genuine email addresses and provide links in these emails to spam sites, which can cause a whole host of problems. Whether it’s simply redirecting you to a fake site, which is annoying, or something much more sinister, spam links are never going to be a good thing.

Spam links contained in emails may contain viruses, which is why it is also vital that you get your office network set up with a comprehensive virus blocker which is set up to update frequently to recognize new risks and viruses.

However, they may also take you to a seemingly harmless website which automatically installs malware or spyware onto your computer which can spread through the entire system. This can also lead to a major security risk, as some of these viruses may contain keyloggers which record your keystrokes to record personal information and passwords to gain access to confidential data.

Spam filters can save you a lot of time and hassle, and make dealing with office emails less of a headache. It can also help prevent the system slowing associated with spam emails, as the vast amount of inbound emails can massively affect the speed of your office system. The processing power won’t be affected, as the spam filter will be able to keep the spam emails away before they ever affect your network.
