HTC One Mini - Mini in Size, Mega in Features

Following in the footsteps of Samsung, HTC has gone ahead and launched a Mini version of its flagship phone. The HTC One Mini comes in a smaller and more affordable package than its big brother without compromising much on the features. Let us go through the key features and specs of this phone.

Features and Specs of HTC One Mini

Build:

The HTC One Mini arrives with the same premium metal design of the flagship, but it is slimmer and more compact as it measures 132 x 63.2 x 9.3 mm. At 122 grams, the phone is around 20 grams lighter than its larger counterpart, which makes one-hand usage convenient and effortless. The use of polished metal alloy (aluminum) lends a premium look and feel to the phone as well as provides durability.

Display:

The One Mini packs in a 4.3 inches Super LCD2 capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 720 X 1280 pixels which equates to a high pixel density of 342 ppi. That's not as impressive as the 441 ppi 5-inch display of the HTC One, but it is certainly right there at the top in the mid-range smartphone segment. Furthermore, the screen is bonded with Corning's Gorilla Glass 3 to prevent scratches and scrapes.

Camera:

The phone arrives with a 4 megapixel camera which allows users to capture high resolution images of up to 2688 X 1520 pixels and shoot videos of 1920 X 1080p @ 30 fps. Since the size of the pixels is larger than those in traditional smartphone cameras, HTC has termed the unit as an UltraPixel camera.

The UltraPixels are able to capture significantly more light (300% more), leading to stunning low light imaging capabilities. Besides this, HTC has also included its dedicated ImageChip which enables noise reduction, High Dynamic Range mode, continuous autofocus and much more. The secondary camera has a 1.6 megapixel sensor which can be used for video calls and self-portraits.

Internals:

At the heart of the HTC One Mini is a high speed Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor along with an Adreno 305 GPU and 1 GB of DDR2 RAM. In terms of storage space, there is 16 GB of onboard memory and a Dropbox cloud storage account of 25 GB.

Sadly, the phone doesn't have a microSD card slot, so you're restricted in terms of physical storage space. As far as the battery is concerned, the handset carries an 1800 mAh non-removable Li-Polymer unit.

Software:

The Mini ships out with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean straight out of the box. The operating system has been customized with HTC's Sense 5.0 user interface which brings along features like BlinkFeed, Video Highlights, BoomSound, HTC Zoe and much more. Rest of the software features are pretty much the same as what you'd expect out of an Android phone.

Availability and Pricing:

The HTC One Mini is expected to be gradually rolled out around the world starting from select markets in Europe from August. The phone is expected to arrive in the United Kingdom on August 9th for a steep price of £379.99.
