5 Tips for Writing a Gaming Blog

A good idea, a purpose, a goal -- something that tells you what you want your blog to be, that is important. By having this, it will help you to stay on track with your writing. It needs to be something more than "I want to write about games."

What part of games do you want to write about? Do you want to go technical and wax on about the nut and bolts of a game like the engine or the design? Or do you want to talk about the content from the storylines to the different classes? There is nothing wrong with a blog evolving with you, either; just be sure that you have a clear vision as to what you intend to write about.

Write About Multiple Games

By committing to write about more than one game you are giving yourself a larger reader base; it's a good way to increase traffic to your blog. It can be about more than one type of game as well. You can decide to have one or two MMOs to anchor your blog and then bring up the occasional app or casual game in your spare time. Or, if you have more than one platform then you can rent or buy several different types of multiplayer games to review instead.

Your Writing Style

The are many different ways you can decide to showcase your writing skills, including using hype, being a critic, and even bringing humor into your content. Would you rather your blog have an overall positive outlook or something that is overtly critical? Or you can try to make sure to bring a balance to each post by finding a set number of things that are both good and bad about a game.

Use hype on something you are genuinely excited about because people will be able to read it reflected in your writing. If you are witty or sarcastic in real life try to see if you can bring that into your writing as well.

The Use of Video and Screencaps

By using multiple media types you make your blog into something more dynamic and appealing to your reader base. That way they not only can read your experience but also see it. So you can use video and screencaps to follow your journey through a certain game or even make posts of YouTube videos from other developers and review them or state an opinion on the content.

Write Clearly

Grammar is an important factor to writing anything that you want others to read. It may seem like something that isn't worth your time but Grammar will make it easier for buyers and readers to understand your contents.

What's the point if readers could not understand your writing when it is the best way to communicate with them. Does this mean you have to be perfect 100% of the time? No, of course not. But make the effort, it will be appreciated more than you may ever know.
