Technological Advancements to File Sharing

File sharing has branched off into many different facets since it first began. Being able to share files was something that slowly developed along with the internet world.

When using computers became more and more popular, the need to receive and handle information became more popular as well.

Floppy Drives

The floppy drive was one of the most popular ways to share files from computer to computer during the initial boom of the internet. Floppy drives were small, square disks that were able to hold information. These drives would be inserted into the floppy disk drive, for information to be written onto the drive.

Once completed, the person could eject the drive and take it with them. These drives could be inserted and read on any computer with a floppy drive. Floppy disks were similar to a small notecard in side and were flat. These drives could be placed in a protective case, though many did not see the necessity.

Flash Drive

As computers became a little more advanced the flash drive began to rapidly replace the floppy drive. Almost overnight, many computers stopped being able to take floppy drives, and instead switched to USB technology for file sharing. Flash drives were much easier to carry around than floppy disks. Flash drives were the size of a keychain for many people, making them portable.

The flash drive was also protected through a covering to make sure that the port that held the information was safe. Many people still use flash drives as carrying a flash drive is relatively simple and by now, has become an old habit.

File Sharing Programs

By now, file sharing programs such as ShareFile.com has made it easier to share files from person to person. File sharing networks are virtual data room or cloud based technology that allow users to upload and download items all over a computer network. Being able to use a file sharing network purely depends on network access.

If you have access to the network you can get into the network from anywhere and not have to carry anything extra. When it comes to file sharing, a network file sharing program is the simplest of all of the means of transmitting communication. While only one person at a time can have a floppy drive or a flash drive, a large number of people can access a file sharing network and view or download the item at the same time.

File sharing programs were created to make sending files across the internet much easier. These programs have evolved to become some of the most used tools in many workplaces. Places of business as well as internet savvy individuals now access and keep up virtual file sharing rooms on a daily basis.

File sharing networks are unlikely to go anywhere. One thing that may happen with file sharing networks is that they continue to evolve, similar like modes of communication have evolved since the beginning stages of the internet. File sharing is an important tool to learn now, before the field takes off.
