Chinese phone maker Huawei announced its new flagship smartphone, the Ascend P7 at a press event in Paris today. The design of this smartphone looks much like the iPhone, but there’s definitely some noticeable differences going on here.
The smartphone will not be shipped to US, but will be available in China, Britian, Germany and 31 other markets around the globe. The Ascend P7 is very slim, and it's the slimmest smartphone from Huawei.
It holds very impressive specs, with a 5-inch 1080p display, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage and if it sounds kind of low, you can add an additional 32GB of space via an expandable microSD card slot.
It sports a 13-megapixel rear-facing shooter accompanied by an 8-megapixel front-facing camera and powered by HiSilicon quad-core 1.8GHz processor. Like other flagship devices, the Ascend P7 comes with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, however it’s slight bogged down by the Huawei’s Emotion UI. The Ascend P7 cost around 449 euros ($625, Rs. 37,800).
Huawei came in the smartphone market by launching mid-range smartphones with reasonable prices in the fast-growing Chinese market as well as appealing to price-conscious consumers in western Europe.
Shao Yang, vice president of marketing for the consumer business said, “We want to provide a premium product but not charge a premium price. Our screen, materials, camera, and power consumption are just as good and sometimes better than the Galaxy and iPhone.”
But with the success of last year’s flagship device, the Acsend P6, the company followed up with Ascend P7 and aims to sell 10 million phones by early next year, compared with 4 million sold to date for the P6.
