Five Tips For Mobile Social Media

Not all of us spend our whole day behind a desk. In fact, whether you have a mobile workday or you’re just on the go when you’re commuting, you probably have lots of in-between time that you could be using to create social media content.

Mobile social media is inherently different from desktop social media, so it can help to follow these tips for crafting the best social media content on the go.

1. Organize Your Phone

If you’re going to be tweeting, Facebooking, Instagramming, and Pinteresting on the move, you will need to set up your phone so that it is equipped for all of your social media sites. Download all of the appropriate apps, including supplemental apps, like those that allow you to create more interesting Instagram pictures from your smart phone.

In addition, you should take some time to get a grasp on how each of the apps works. Posting on Facebook via your smart phone will be different from posting using your computer. The same goes for all of your social media feeds, so you would do well to explore each app for a while to get used to the new digs.

2. Turn Everything into Content

Everything you see can be content. When you are on the move, your content source is no longer a news feed or a blog. Instead, you should treat all of your experiences as inspiration for content.
If you are creating text content, think about interesting ways to comment on your surroundings. For businesses, you might just give your customers an update on what’s happening from the floor.

Individuals of all types can create all sorts of content just by taking a look around them. This gets lost in the shuffle sometimes: Social media is meant to enhance our experience of the world. Of course, you can also use these opportunities to create new kinds of content, such as posting photographs. If you come across some interesting visuals, take out the phone and snap a quick shot for your feed.

3. Big Things Come in Small Packages

Coming up with blog content can be a pain. You might find yourself banging your head on your desk for a while before you put together an idea for potentially viral content. When you’re on the move, things get a lot simpler. Don’t think so much about whether your content will get shared a trillion times or whether it will have a huge impact on your followers. Instead, have fun with it.

Think of this as a change of pace from your normal postings, and switch up your style and content to give your followers something new. It doesn’t have to be life changing to be valuable. Just focus on providing interesting content to your readers, even if it is quick sentence about the insanely tight pants your neighbor on the train is wearing.

4. Don’t Post while Driving

Seriously.

5. Try out Different Sites

It pays to diversify your social media operations—if you plan on actually using multiple sites. While Facebook and Twitter have the biggest followings, they aren’t the only games in town anymore. Instead of just using those sites, explore some of the other options you have for social media content.

As stated, Instagram can be a great option for mobile social media, as it provides a great way to share your visual content. Pinterest can be strong for similar reasons. Think about which sites might be helpful to use, and then consider whether you will actually want to put in the effort to remain active on those sites over time.
