Google's security is considered the best on the Internet, yet Google accounts are being hacked. So, what does it mean, whether they are not safe any more? The answer is no, they are secure as before. But, due to some activities of hacking of Google account users,
Google has taken this step to strengthen their account with one more process besides username and password, therefore it is called 2 Step Verification.
2 Step verification adds an extra layer of security to Google's account. This another process or extra process involves your cellphone to login your account.
Since we use our Google account at many places besides gmail, like YouTube, Orkut, Google Reader, Facebook, Adsense, Adwords, etc, therefore it is very important for us to keep our account secure to its maximum level.
Setting up 2 Step Verification
Now, lets start adding another layer of security to our Google account. You can do this in two ways:
• By going to this URL and log-in, https://accounts.google.com/b/0/SmsAuthConfig
• Secondly, by going from your G mail account's setting as shown below.
When you will click on other Google account settings, then you see the option of 2 step verification. After opening it you will see a page as below:
Enter your mobile number on which you want to receive verification code. After you have done all the process you will receive a code, now this code is used every time when you login. If you are using a private system at your home you can tick the option to remember your code for 30 days.
It also gives you an option to enter a secondary phone number, if by chance you lost your primary number then you can login with your secondary number.
