4 Easy Computer Functions Most People Don\'t Know

Easy Computer Functions
You have a long document to read or write. You want to get through this process as quickly as possible. Though your hunt-and-peck style of typing isn't the best, you know you'll get it done eventually.

What if there were simple, easy to use ways to navigate the process of word processing and computer function that could speed things up? If you are like most people, you don't know some basic computer functions that could make tasks like these easier to manage.

It's Easy to Find Something

You need to locate a term in a long document. Your options include reading through the document and finding the instance of the word that way or using the find function. Simply press the "control" and "f" keys at the same time. A box will show up. Type in the word you want to find. It will locate every instance of that word in the document for you by highlighting it. You can get through those pages in a flash.

Need to Replace Something?

Let's say you just noticed, six pages into writing a document, that you've spelled a name wrong. You've probably used that name 30 times in those pages. Going back and fixing it is going to take time. That is unless you use the find and replace function. It works just like the find function.

Press the "control" and "h" keys. This will bring up a box. In the first space, type the word you need to replace. In the second box, type the word that should be there instead. It will do this automatically for you from the start of the document until the end.

Can't Think of a Word

Maybe you are writing a creative story and need to learn some new variations of common words. Your editor may be falling asleep reading your work. You could use an online thesaurus to find something interested. You could dig out the paperback copy you have instead. Another option is to use the "shift" and "F7" keys instead. This brings up a thesaurus for you to use. It will check the word you just typed for other variations.

Need to Capitalize Something

As you are writing, you stumble upon a word you don't know whether or not to capitalize. As you work through the document using it one way, you realize you should have gone the other route. With the "Shift" and "F3" function, you can change the case of letters quickly. You can also use this function for title capitalization, making words all lowercase or even all caps.
If you are like most, you don't realize there is a whole list of options for you to select from to speed up production using your Ultrabook. That's okay, you are not alone. You may, however, want to dig out your copy of Microsoft Office or Windows to find the owner's manual and guidelines to learn more of these quick tips.
