How to Take a Photo on Your iPhone Using the Official Twitter Application

Posting a photo to your Twitter profile from your Apple iPhone has never been easier. In years past, you had to first take a photo using the built in “Camera” application and then upload that picture to an image hosting site before it could make its way over to your profile.

Thanks to the built-in Twitter integration on the iPhone with the iOS 6 operating system, you can now post a photo in a flash right from the main Twitter application. The image will be captured via your camera and instantly uploaded to an image hosting site. You can then send your tweet to your profile for all of your followers to see.

Step 1

Enable the native Twitter integration present in the iOS 6 operating system on your iPhone (if you have yet to do so). Tap once on the “Settings” application icon and scroll down to the option reading “Twitter.” The appropriate option will be towards the bottom of the page and will be near the “Facebook” and “Photos & Camera” options.

Enter your Twitter username and password into the boxes on screen and tap “Sign In.” Once your iPhone has been signed into your Twitter account, tap the grey “Install” button to download the official Twitter application to your device. Exit the “Settings” application to continue.

Step 2

Tap on the official “Twitter” application icon to launch the appropriate window on screen. The application is labeled “Twitter” and features the traditional white and blue company logo. The first screen you see when the application loads will be a reflection of the current timeline associated with your account.

Step 3

Tap the “New Message” button in the upper right corner of the official Twitter application. Though the button itself has new label, it is similar to the “New Message” button present in all other iOS applications for your iPhone. A box labeled “New Tweet” will appear on screen.

Step 4

Use the iPhone virtual keyboard to compose your Twitter message in the box on screen. Remember that you are limited to 140 characters, so make your message as concise as possible. The link to the photograph you will take will also take up some characters, so try to limit your message to around 100 characters or so.

Step 5

Tap the “Photo” button located on the left side of the grey bar above the iPhone virtual keyboard. To take a new photograph with your iPhone’s camera, tap the grey button labeled “Take photo or video.” Use your iPhone’s camera to snap your desired photograph, the same way you would if you were using the official “Camera” application.

When you’re finished taking your photo, a link to the image will automatically be inserted into the message you have already composed. Tap the blue button labeled “Tweet” to send the message to your Twitter account.

Note that you can also tap the “Choose from library” button to select a photo that you have previously taken using your iPhone’s camera should you choose to do so.

If you are struggling to upload your photos to Twitter, Wes recommends running an internet speed test, as a slow connection is likely to be the cause.
