IPhone 4S Or IPhone 5?

With the price of an i Phone contract for the 4S dropping considerably after the release of the iPhone 5, you might be wondering if it's worth it to upgrade, or to just go for the cheaper contract with the older model.

And signing an iPhone contract for the 4S could save you a hefty amount of money. With most mobile service providers you're going to save around £10 a month or so at least, which over the course of a contract can really add up. But what exactly are the differences between the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5.

Before you sign that contract, you might want to know exactly what you're getting into. So if you need to know what the iPhone 5 can do that the 4S can't, then you might want to keep reading to find out...

What the iPhone 5 Can Do...

Obviously, as a newer model, the iPhone 5 has a lot of advantage over the 4S model. It is the faster phone. It runs a 1300 MHz processor rather than the slower 800 MHz processor on the 4S, making it more powerful and snappier. It also runs double the RAM, meaning that it's more responsive and better able to handle multi-tasking or running more than one process at a time.

Plus, it gets faster maximum data speeds, which generally means that you get quicker downloading and faster opening of web pages. The screen on the iPhone 5 is larger, it measures in at a full four inches, rather than the smaller three and a half inch screen on the 4S, which is actually a pretty big difference.

The display also has around twenty per cent higher resolution, making it clearer and crisper than that on the 4S. And the 5 is a lot more compact. It comes in ten per cent generally smaller as well as twenty per cent thinner and twenty per cent lighter than the 4S model.

What the iPhone 4S Can Do...

The only real benefit of the 4S over the 5 is the battery life. Because of the smaller screen size and less powerful processor, the 4S uses less battery power than the 5. On average, the 4S gets about eighty per cent more talk time per battery charge cycle, getting around fourteen hours of talk time versus just eight hours on the iPhone 5.

Should I Sign the Cheaper Contract?

The iPhone 5 has a lot of advantages. However, most of these advantages are not things that are going to make a great deal of difference to the average customer. A powerful processor is nice, but you are probably not going to notice a huge difference in performance with every day use.

The only real, serious advantage is the larger screen, which makes web browsing and email reading a lot more pleasant. But, given the serious savings that can be made by signing a contract for the older model, it really is worth considering. The iPhone 5 is great, but the iPhone 4S is still pretty great too, and the lower technical specs are more than worth the savings that you can make.
