Why HP Laptops Rock? A True Story

I have been using HP laptops since I was born. Just kidding! There were no laptops when I was born. Yes, what I am trying to say is that I am a loyal HP user. I tried to switch to Asus and Acer but all in vain.

HP products were still the best for me. I had a chance to get my hands at many laptops from Samsung, Toshiba and even LG, but my heart was nonetheless with HP. Wait, don’t accuse me of a shameless advertising, as I am going to give my reasons.

Recently, I purchased HP Envy dv6-7252er which I think is a good laptop under $900. Down the page are its pros and cons, and a few suggestions from myself as an advanced user.

Design and build

This is what I absolutely love about HP laptops. I have an old HP laptop purchased back in 2003. It still looks modern and cool. So, HP Envy justifies its name. Everyone’s going to envy you! The aluminum body is just spectacular! It looks like a Wall Street broker in his best suit and tie. The keyboard is well spaced, so I had no problems adjusting to it after HP Pavillion. Everything is smooth and feels great to touch. All ports are conveniently located.

By the way, there’s a fingerprint scanner which is a great security feature. Also, you’ll forget about overheating problem. The area around touchpad will always remain cool thanks to HP Cool Sense technology.

Screen

It could have been better. I am not a fan of glossy screens and HP Envy is not an exception. The resolution of the screen is 1366x768 which is not impressive for a 15.6 inch screen. However, the screen is good enough to work with docs, play games and enjoy videos without killing your eyes.

Processor, RAM and graphics

This is where I discovered that my HP Envy is a beast! 4-core i7 processor and 8GB of RAM - can you ask for more? Well, you can. You can squeeze in more RAM if you need it. This combination of processor and RAM makes my Envy capable of solving even the most complex tasks. Compilation of a Java project? Running a few heavy applications?

No problem at all! As to graphics, the laptop packs discrete nVidia GeForce GT 630M 2MB. I can easily edit videos with Sony Vegas 12 with no lagging, which was an awesome user experience. If my old laptop rendered a short video (3 mins) for 27 minutes, now this procedure takes roughly 5 minutes. Awesome!

What can be improved?
What I do lack is SSD. Well, the laptop is fast with its 1TB hard drive. However, I plan to replace the drive with a new SSD and turn my HP into a spaceship. Also, I do not find placement of toughpad too convenient. I sort of got used to a touchpad located below the keyboard right in the middle, while in this HP it’s tends to shift to the right. However, getting used to it is a matter of time.
