Have you noticed how everyone seems to love any gadget as long as it's tiny? Maybe the reason we feel this way is because we've been used to carrying massive things around for ages and we just want a change.
You can surely remember getting backache carrying those old laptops around. Even a decent-sized mobile phone used to pull our pants down when it was in our pocket. It's now got to the stage where people actually believe they will be able to replace their laptop with a small tablet.
Is this even possible, or have Apple marketers been waving their magic wands around for too long? Tablets are definitely enjoyable and they are great for consuming information, but we're going to take a look at why it will be a while before they replace laptops.
We have to give tablets credit because they are very powerful. They've actually been getting faster and faster every year, but how long will it be before they can ever match the speed of your trusty laptop? Unfortunately there are some things you won't be able to do on a tablet because it will run too slow and we all know how time equals money. Are you prepared to earn less money just so you can look cool?
Apps have definitely taken the world by storm and we have all fell in love with them. You can pick one up for almost any purpose and they work, but are they better than PC or Mac applications? Anyone who was being honest would say mobile apps can't compete at the moment. They might be able to in the future, but they need to become a lot more sophisticated first.
You can't type as fast
Most people won't be able to type as fast using a tablet. When I say most I'm actually saying nearly everyone. Nobody is saying you can't type fast using the on-screen keyboard on an iPad, but common sense says a traditional keyboard will always reign supreme. You also have to carry an external keyboard about with you and that means there is one more thing to never forget.
The screen on a tablet is small compared to a regular laptop. I already know some people will use the excuse that they like a small screen better, but they are in denial. It's okay using a tablet for a while, but after a few hours you need something bigger. After a week of using a tablet to work 8 hours per day you will probably try to break into a shop to steal a large monitor.
We've already talked about losing money because of the speed, but there are much more reasons why companies would eventually lose everything. You can't expect employees to be as productive when they are typing on a tablet all day. The lack of powerful applications mean companies will have to do without things. We've touched on these things before, but they all revolve around money, or the lack thereof.
