Generally, a new release of MS Outlook incorporates new and advanced features and Outlook 2013 justifies this saying. The all-new look of this latest version of Outlook helps you to focus on what is important to you.

With a more clear view of emails, contacts, and calendars, you enjoy your working with this email client more effectively. The quick switching among main Outlook functions makes it superior than its predecessors. However, everything that has advantages has some disadvantages as well and this applies to Outlook 2013.

Despite so many useful features, this latest release of the popular email client has some of the very critical issues. Mentioned below is the list of some of the common issues of Outlook 2013 and their possible workarounds:

• Commands Do Not Work when Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010 is Running and Installed alongside with Outlook 2013:

If Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010 is installed and running alongside with Outlook 2013, then you may see the following error message when you give command ‘Send To > Mail Recipient’ in Windows Explorer or click ‘File > Send As Attachment’ in some other program: “This action is not supported while an older version of Outlook is running”.

Workaround: To rectify this situation, it is suggested to close the earlier version of Outlook and repeat the steps. Alternatively, you can create a new message in MS Outlook and click ‘Insert > Attach File’ to attach this file.

• Absent Jump List:
On right clicking on the ‘Taskbar’ icon of Outlook, you may not find options to create new emails, task, or meeting. That means not even a single jump list option is there. Workaround: Follow the below steps to resolve this issue:

o Go to the ‘Taskbar’ of your MS Outlook 2013 and unpin the taskbar icon.
o Exit Outlook.
o Delete the following registry key ‘HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Setup’
o Open MS Outlook once again and re-pin its icon.

• Complete Removal of Data from ‘Deleted Items’ folder can Result in Full Exchange Mailbox Deletion:
When you empty the ‘Deleted Items’ folder of your Outlook 2013 mailbox, then you may find that all the contents of Exchange Mailbox are also deleted. This occurs when any of the below mentioned conditions are true:

o When Outlook 2010 is configured with the Exchange account in online mode, but it has an OST file that is associated with the profile that was created after you switched from Cache Mode at some point in the past
o You installed Outlook 2013 (upgrade or side-by-side) and use its Online Mode profile
o Your Exchange Account is in Online Mode (not in Cached Exchange Mode), but the Cached Exchange mode Sync Settings administrative template policy setting is configured.
Workaround: The possible workaround to overcome this situation is to download and install MSI-based setup update of MS Office Professional Plus 2013 Preview.

• Search Does Not Return Results:
Sometimes, in Outlook 2013, you do not get any results for your search. That means search does not return a result. Instead, you get the following error message: “We couldn’t find what you are looking for.” Workaround: Your MS Office setup is not able to set the registry keys correctly or sometimes this happens when not all keys are configured. Follow the below mentioned steps to do a repair for reconfiguring the registry keys:

o Go to the ‘Control Panel >> Programs and Features’.
o Click ‘MS Office Professional Plus 2013’ > ‘Change’ > ‘Quick Repair’.
o Restart your computer.
o Wait for some time, as the indexing takes time to accomplish the task. After that, test search.

• Errors When You Try to Connect to Exchange 2003:
You may get the following error message when you configure Outlook 2013 for Exchange 2003 account: “The resource that you are trying to use is located on an unsupported version of Microsoft Exchange. Contact your e-mail administrator for assistance.” Workaround: Your Outlook 2013 is not supported on MS Exchange 2003. Try to connect Outlook 2013 to Exchange 2007, 2010, or 2013.

• Outlook Corruption Error:
Outlook 2013 is not immune to the corruption issue, which you can find when you work with it. A hang, freeze or sudden stoppage in working, or errors such as ‘Outlook not responding’ while performing basic Outlook operations like sending or receiving emails are some of the common symptoms of Outlook data file corruption. Some probable causes of these situations are:
o It occurs when you have not installed the latest updates for your Outlook 2013.

o A previously installed plug-in is causing issues.
o A large mailbox
o Corruption of Outlook data files (PST or OST)
o Conflict of Outlook 2013 with other programs
o An outdated anti-virus software that is conflicting with MS Outlook 2013
o Corruption of MS Office program

If the issue is related to MS Outlook program or unavailability of its latest updates, then reinstallation of MS Outlook or installation of its updated version is recommended. If such issues are caused due to anti-virus software, then install an updated anti-virus program that does not conflict with MS Outlook.

However, if the issue is related to corruption of Outlook data files, i.e. corruption of Outlook PST files, then their replacement with their latest backup can solve your problem.

If the backup of Outlook data files is not available, then use of professional Outlook recovery software can resolve this issue. Professional Outlook recovery tool repairs corrupt Outlook PST file and restores all its data without causing any kind of corruption or data loss. Generally, all tools of this category have intuitive user interface that does not let you feel that you are using this software for the first time.

By understanding common Outlook issues and their workarounds, you can resolve the problems with your MS Outlook 2013 and work more effectively with it. However, these are some of the general issues that largely occur with Outlook 2013 users and you may come across some situations different than the above-mentioned ones as well.
