HTC One Mini: A Mini Marvel

The HTC One mini is a small handset with big ambitions as the Taiwanese manufacturer looks to extending its flagship experience out to even more users across the globe.

Prior to the unveiling of the new mid-range device earlier this month, HTC said that the One mini shows that “smaller can be better”, packing some top-end features into a compact shell.
The handset looks to build on the success already achieved by the HTC One, which according to the firm has “boosted” its position in the smartphone stakes over the past few months.

Consumers seeking an orange mobile or handset from other major mobile network providers have recently started to favour the brand over competitors such as Samsung, and the One mini is the phone maker’s way of building on this by bringing the One experience “to as many people as possible”.

During this year alone HTC’s finances have improved a great deal and during the second quarter of 2013 saw its profits increase to $41.6m, which is impressive considering the firm was still struggling to bolster its takings at the start of the year.

This figure certainly reflects the huge demand for the stylish and functional HTC One, but as with most high-end handsets its innovations come at a price, which many simply can’t afford.
Innovation for everyone

That’s where the One mini comes in, with headline-grabbing features such as HTC’s UltraPixel camera, Sense 5.0 with BlinkFeed, and BoomSound speakers. There’s no doubt that consumers watching their pennies will be tempted by this latest offering.

It has been argued that the One mini is too similar to its bigger brother, and as a result some industry commentators are predicting that it could in fact have a negative impact upon future sales of the firm’s flagship.

However, while the handsets may look very similar, under the hood they tell a very different story, and it’s unlikely those willing to splash out on the complete One experience will simply make do with its miniature counterpart.

HTC, like many other manufacturers, is looking to create mobile phones for all price points to appeal to potential consumers, and it’s clear the company has gone to great lengths to ensure those on a budget don’t miss out on what are some of the best smartphone innovations to come to the fore this year.
