Features of Cutting Edge Surveillance Systems

Competition is tough for small businesses. More regulation and litigation make turning a profit and building a customer base more difficult than ever. Competing for both brick and mortar clientele and gaining a foothold in the internet market is a challenge.

New strategies are a must. Losing money to theft, financial impropriety, and basic work inefficiency simply cannot happen. That’s where a system of IP cameras, or internet protocol cameras, comes into play. An IP camera is basically an internet camera that a supervisor can view from anywhere with an internet connection.

Before investing in such a system, a company will want to know what they are getting, and what makes it a worthy investment, especially if they also have a traditional closed circuit TV camera system in place.

Cameras that Blend into the Woodwork

Neither customers nor company employees enjoy being watched. One of the great features of IP cameras is their small physical stature. They are basically web cams, and they can be small and unobtrusive. Some cameras are smaller than a child’s hand. They can fit almost anywhere in a home or office, or production line.

Because of their small size, they can come in various shapes. This has led some companies to market spy cams in unique shapes that look like other objects.  Take, for example, the following unique disguises:

  • An alarm clock camera
  • A coat hook camera
  • An AC adaptor camera
  • A smoke alarm camera
  • A tissue box camera

There will likely be many more variations on these themes in the future. Not many people will suspect that such objects are actually cameras, so they will behave more naturally. This might enable a company to easily observe wrongdoing, thereby catching a criminal or scofflaw employee, and saving money in the long run.

Flexibility of Surveillance Operations

Ease of adaptability is another aspect of IP cameras that should intrigue potential buyers. A system needs only a good internet connection. It can even be wireless if good Wi-Fi is available. Naturally, that minimizes installation costs. It also enables the owner to move cameras in the Wi-Fi range when a different use may arise.

For example, the cameras of a store may typically be pointed at the merchandise racks or the door. If, however, there is a special event with a public speaker, cameras can be moved to anticipate any crowd problems. This might not even require physical movement.  Some cameras can be pointed remotely. Others can have two- way audio capability, which can come in handy in various circumstances.

Viewing the Surveillance Images

Modern technology borrowed from other fields enables surveillance system owners to watch high definition quality images. It will thus be far easier to identify faces and what actually happened rather than guessing at what had happened on the old grainy images of TV style cameras. Also, some digital surveillance cameras can be activated by a light or motion sensor.

When someone comes to the door of the shop, the camera is activated, and you can see it. When nobody is there, the camera isn’t live.  There need be no extra hours of blank scenes to sort through. Evidence of impropriety or illegal activity will be easy to find in sifting through the recording, making these cameras perfect for discreet surveillance.

There are many other desirable features in an internet camera surveillance system, and the prices are reasonable considering how well they can protect a business or home.
