Motorola's latest smartphone is the mid-range Moto G, which promises to bring the best Android experience at an exceptional price.

The phone boasts of a 4.5-inch display, quad-core processor, 5 megapixel rear-facing camera and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS, which puts it in a great position against its competitors in the low-cost niche market. Let us find out more about this handset.

Design:

The Motorola Moto G has a plastic body which measures 129.9 x 65.9 x 11.6 mm and tips the weight scales at 143 grams. The back panel is removable, thus making it possible to interchange it with a new colored shell to give the phone a new look. Motorola is offering a range of shell covers and flip covers in a variety of colors, which enables users to style the Moto G according to their taste. As far as the handling is concerned, the phone is perfect for one-handed usage and offers a nice feel in the hand.

Display:

The Moto G packs in a 4.5-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen display with a respectable resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, resulting in a pixel density count of 329 ppi. It's a multi-touch panel and it has a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 to prevent scratches and scruffs caused due to the occasional drop. The screen offers impressive color reproduction, deep blacks, high contrast and good sunlight legibility, which is the best you can get in the budget Android segment.

Camera:

The phone rolls out with a 5-megapixel back-facing camera which has the ability to capture high resolution images of up to 2592 х 1944 pixels and record videos of 720p@30fps. There's also an LED flash which can be utilized during night time or in low light environments.

The Motorola camera app is a bit different compared to the standard stock Android version, but it is quite easy to use and boasts of features like face detection, smile shot, HDR mode, panorama mode, touch focus and exposure settings. Additionally, you get a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera for video calls and self-portraits.

Performance:

The Motorola Moto G runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset featuring a Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 processor, Adreno 305 graphics processor, 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB or 32 GB of internal memory. The device doesn't have a microSD card slot, so users won't be able to extend the memory capacity further.

On the software side of things, you get Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system, which is one step below the latest Android version. However, Motorola has promised to upgrade the software to the latest Android 4.4 KitKat edition early next year, which should bring the Moto G on par with the best Android devices in the market.

Battery:

The handset comes equipped with an embedded Li-Ion 2070 battery, which Motorola claims will easily last for up to 24 hours of mixed usage. However, it is more than likely that you'll need to connect the phone to a charger at the end of the day if you're a heavy user.
