A first impression is so important. Your logo is the first impression a customer will get of your brand. It therefore must communicate all the right things in a matter of seconds.

This is why hiring a professional design company to ensure your brand is conveyed in the best light through a symbol is essential. You can always take matters into your own hands, but when it comes down to creating or selecting logo design, experience and knowledge of the art is key.

Thinking about the company, the audience and the design element must all be intertwined to think of the best logo that speaks to the potential customers and convinces them of a brands authority within the market. If you are going to hire a professional logo design company, here are some of other things you should expect from the logo design process.

1. Lots of Sketches

At the start, the designer will draw out reels of sketches to begin their brainstorm for the logo. Putting pen to paper or using a vector program such as Illustrator is exactly what needs to be done to note down promising ideas and gather inspiration. Even the ideas that are weaker can come together at a later stage and create something brilliant.

This is why at this stage the more inspiration the designer is surrounded by the better. Therefore if you are a brand who has already been though a few logo designs in the past, let the designer see these designs.

If you want to be positioned as a heritage brand, then some of the elements if not most of them can be worked into your current design. If you want to completely turn the brands image on its head and go with a fresh look, then consider not using any of the old designs and going with something totally fresh.

2. Equilibrium within the Design

There must be balance between the different elements of the logo design to look good to the consumer. Many designers will follow the gestalt theory by incorporating unity of lines, shapes, patterns and fonts to make a unified whole. The entire logo will look much neater if there is balance in the design.

It will also be much easier once all the proportions are correct and balanced to adapt the logo to several different materials. This is because the logo will be seen from a number of angles and on a variety of different backgrounds. You may break the balance if you have a good customer-driven reason. This might actually help differentiate your logo from the competition. So think carefully about the direction you want to go in.

3. Consider the Size and Scale

Thinking about the careful usage of graphics and different font types is crucial if you are to maintain the quality of the logo. The designer should always use Vector in their illustration programs so that when the scale is altered, the quality is maintained. Experimenting with the logo in a number of sizes and on a number of backgrounds is advantageous in the design process. This will ensure the logo can be easily understood despite it being small or large.

4. Using Colors that Count

Colors can play an important role in communicating the right message about your brand to your audience. Getting to grips with color psychology and which shades can evoke certain emotions is a good idea if you want to trigger a reaction to your logo. It is wise to use colors that are near to each other on the color wheel. For example, if you are going for warmer colors, stick to the ones closest such as the oranges, yellows and reds.
